ABC Delays "Men In Trees", Again

What is going on in the ABC scheduling department? Is this the way to treat a show that has already been renewed for a second season? You may think ABC is extending the 4-episode run of the current post-Grey's slot occupant "October Road". After all they do have 6 episodes in the can. If so, you are mistaken.

The Alphabet network has just announced that beginning April 12 it will run the new sitcom about a young couple coping with pregnancy called "Notes from the Underbelly" on Thursdays at 10pm, thus delaying the return of Anne Heche's romantic series "Men In Trees" until an undisclosed later date.

Alphabet opted to make the change after Fox expanded its "American Idol" results show on Wednesdays to an hour, a blow to "Underbelly's" Wednesday at 9:30 slot.

Obviously, ABC has high hopes for the single-camera "Underbelly," promoting it heavily during the net's hit reality competition "Dancing With the Stars."

Rather than watch it suffer opposite "Idol," ABC now hopes to attract some of "Grey's" loyal audience.

ABC will air two episodes of the sitcom back-to-back beginning at 10pm, a rather unusual timeslot for a half-hour comedy format.

The somewhat smaller but loyal fanbase of the Alaska-set "Men In Trees" may have to wait until the next season to see the new episodes.

TV Ratings: "American Idol" Takes a Dip

Has Sanjaya Malakar finally hurt the credibility of the "American Idol" brand? It may be too early to tell, but the ratings have certainly taken a considerable dip. Over two million people have abandoned the FOX blockbuster since last week.

26,84 million people tuned in to see special guest Gwen Stefani and Sanjaya's fauxhawk at 8pm on FOX, with as many as 22,18 of them sticking around to watch "House" at 9:07 pm. Now that's what you call a well used lead-in.

To what extent did the dirty scheduling move on the part of FOX hurt "Dancing with the Stars" ratings? Apparently, not at all. The results show scored 17,6 million viewers, 1,5 million more than the first "Dancing" results show in September.

That plum lead-in was however once again wasted on a stinker of a 10pm entry. ABC premiered new reality program "Dream Vote" that barely managed to hold on to one third of that "Dancing" audience and then lost another 2 million in the second half hour. Wouldn't it have been better if ABC continued to use these results show as a lead-in into "LOST"? If it ain't broken, don't fix it, ABC.

Finally Mariska and Chris ruled the 10pm slot with over 12 million viewers.

Becki Newton: "Eric Mabius Worth Singing Songs About"

"Ugly Betty" star Becki Newton praises her co-star Eric Mabius in last week's sexy edition of TV Guide (the magazine branded the actor one of the sexiest male stars on television) and reveals what you didn't know about their love scenes.

Newton who plays the conniving blond vixen receptionist Amanda says:

"Eric's so sexy he has his own theme song. Whenever he comes around and I see those incredible blue eyes of his, I start singing: 'This is the dawning of the age of Mabius, age of the Ma...bi...usss!'"

"He loves it. Or maybe he doesn't, but I don't care. The guy is worth singing songs about. He's the only straight man I know who gets away with wearing pink and fuchsia shirts, and he's always a perfect gentleman.

"We had to do a few love scenes early on, and Eric made it so comfortable. We're sitting there half-naked under the covers, and he's telling me about his baby boy Max, and how fun it is to change diapers. Now if that's not sexy, I don't know what is."

How many times do I have to repeat this: Becki Newton rocks!

Boone's Bad Hair (Wig) Day

Ian Sommerhalder returns to LOST in tonight's Nikki and Paulo-centric episode that flashes back to the day when Oceanic Flight 815 crashed on the island. Here's a little clip from the episode that explains the origin of the title ("Expose") and tells the story we had seen before, now from an all-new perspective.

Recreating the horror of the beach scene that opened the pilot episode, the producers called back Sommerhalder who played Boone as well as co-stars Maggie Grace (his sister Shannon), William Mapother (Ethan Rom) and Daniel Roebuck (Dr. Artz), all familiar faces from season one.

In addition to that unfortunate choice of a wig that made a failed attempt to recapture Sommerhalder's cover-boy look from the spring of 2004, the scene may feel awkward and forced to die-hard LOST fans because those dead weights Nikki and Paulo will be shoved down our throats (hopefully) one last time.

Rob Lowe Promoted On "Brothers & Sisters"

Rob Lowe who joined ABC's addictive drama "Brothers & Sisters" in November as a "special guest star" has now been promoted to "series regular" for the show's recently announced second season, Hollywood press reports tonight.

Sunday night sudser has seen its ratings increase since Lowe joined the cast, although the results also have to be contributed to consistent quality writing and the drama's A-list cast boasting talents of such greats as Sally Field.

Back in January, the producers made a decision to extend his initial a handful of episodes long guest starring stint and keep him on board for the rest of the season under the same title, special guest star.

Recently the actor has negotiated an as-yet undisclosed salary increase (thus far top-paid thespian on the show Flockhart earns $150,000 per episode) with the new deal securing his place on the show for a full second season and promoting him to the status of series regular.

"He brings a unique romantic addition to the show by his combination of wit and charm and his elegance," said exec producer Jon Robin Baitz.

"The great discovery of it is there's such an intrinsic chemistry between him and Calista, which is so rare to find in two actors together. He's been a tremendous boon to the show in terms of storylines and even the ratings."

Rob Lowe of course plays conservative Senator McCalister, a romantic foil to Calista's character, the Republican political commentator Kitty Walker.

TV Ratings: ABC Dances To Victory; "Break" Hits Season Low

There was no stopping ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" last night as the reality blockbuster scored 20,16 million viewers for its 2-hour telecast, with viewership levels peaking at 9pm. The penultimate episode of FOX's "Prison Break" meanwhile hit season low with 8,01 million viewers.

The season finale of "What About Brian" wasted most of the "Dancing" lead-in audience keeping only 7,58 million viewers tuned into ABC at 10pm. Actually, the show opened with 8,72 million coming down to only 6,44 million in the second half hour. JJ Abrams would need the magic of island to keep this stinker alive.

"The Black Donnellys" over on NBC did even worse than "Brian" with 5,67 million viewers. Expect both "Donnellys" and "Studio 60" off the schedule by the end of the season.

Earlier in the evening, two episodes of NBC's "Deal or no Deal" held up pretty well against the "Dancing" ratings monster - the original episode pulled in 12,1 million viewers. Still this is much worse than what the show used to average for new episodes at 8pm before ABC's reality contest came along.

Finally, FOX's "24" grew almost 4 million viewers out of "Prison Break" and ended up with 11,83 million viewers, while a repeat of CBS's "CSI: Miami" was the top show at 10pm with 12,97 million total viewers.

LOST's Evangeline Lilly To Get Punk'd!

MTV is kicking off the eighth and (they claim) the final season of Hollywood's biggest prankster Ashton Kutcher's candid camera show "Punk'd" including an appearance of the LOST babe Evangeline Lilly.

The unsuspecting victims will also include Hilary Swank, Magic Johnson and Nelly Furtado MTV said on Monday.

In December 2003, following the show's second cycle, executive producer Ashton Kutcher said he was pulling the plug.

Speculation immediately arose that it was a ploy to lower the guard of celebrity targets. "Punk'd" did indeed return in April 2004.

MTV Networks Music Group entertainment president Brian Graden said Monday that the show is officially finished this time, but that there might be future collaborations with Kutcher on other projects.

MTV plans to debut the entire final season - all eight episodes - back-to-back in a "Sneak Peek Marathon" starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7. The series then premieres at 9 p.m. April 10 as part of a new Tuesday night block.

Evangeline Lilly is pictured above in a recent photo shoot for the cover page of last week's special issue of TV Guide Magazine in which she was named TV's sexiest female star. Patrick Dempsey won the male title.

VIDEO: There He Goes Again!

Oh I get it now! He's not serious. He's just poking fun at himself. Wait. Donald Trump doesn't know how to poke fun at himself. Does he now? He's just doing that to piss people off. Then again he might be delusional after all.

On Sunday night, on an all new "Apprentice" on NBC, Donald Trump was preparing his squad of obedient wannabee execs for a marketing showdown tied to Universal Studios and Theme Park.

Meeting his program's participants at Hollywood's Grumman's Chinese Theatre, the real estate mogul said he was a bigger star than anybody and... yes, he called "The Apprentice" the #1 show on television.

Meanwhile, Mediaweek reports that for the week ending March 25, 2007, cycle 6 of The Apprentice ranked #46, drawing less than seven thousand total viewers. Among viewers 18-49, The Apprentice 6 ranked #37, with a 2.7/7.

Oh, no! Are his lawyers going to threaten me with a lawsuit? OK, I'm about to do that comb-over thing now.

According to E! Online Paris called it quits with Stavros because he was very unhappy with all the attention the heiress was getting from her male admirers.

Prior to last night, Ashley Simpson's ex Henderson was seen with Hilton at the Area nightclub and at her own weekend house party.

FOX Extends "Idol" Results Shows

Great. Just what we needed. A new season of "How Many Commercial Breaks Can Ryan Seacrest Sneak Into This Already Drawn Out Results Show?"

The FOX network has announced it will switch to one-hour "American Idol" results shows a month earlier than planned.

The results editions of the singing competition scheduled for April 11, April 18 and May 2, which were supposed to be half-hours, will now run from 9-10 pm.

The show's producers requested the change because (get this!) with the contestants' star coaches performing during recent results shows, the singers voted off had not being able to do their 2-minute farewell performance lately.

That is why those considerate folks at FOX will be adding an entire half-hour for your viewing pleasure. Enjoy.

The April 11 "Idol" result show now will be preceded by a one-hour season finale of the freshman comedy " 'Till Death."

As previously announced, Fox will air the second part of the two-night special "Idol Gives Back" on April 25.

Heather Locklear Returns

Foxy mama Heather Locklear is coming back to prime-time television. That is if her comedy pilot for ABC is picked up for the fall schedule. The network has ordered more pilots than any other network, so the competition will be tough.

Heather who is seen here promoting her last prime-time series, NBC's short-lived "LAX" in which she starred with Blaire Underwood in the fall of 2004, is of course known to audiences across the globe as sassy Sammy Jo Carrington on 80's soap "Dynasty" as well as micro-skirt clad ad exec vixen Amanda on 90's sudsfest "Melrose Place."

The actress was cast by ABC in the lead role on the comedy "See Jayne Run" as the title character Jayne Doherty, an accomplished alpha female working in the male-dominated world of investment banking who struggles to balance career and motherhood. The comedy pilot is produced by ABC's in-house production studio.

One of the most recognizable faces of US broadcast television, Locklear has also had experience in the field of comedy - for three seasons she co-starred on ABC's political sitcom "Spin City" with Michael J. Fox and later Charlie Sheen.

"Men In Trees", "Veronica Mars", "One Tree Hill" To Return

ABC and The CW have set return dates for the trio of dramas that had been shelved earlier this month to make way for midseason replacements.

ABC's Anne Heche fronted series "Men In Trees" which is returning for a second season in the fall will resume its first season on April 12 at 10pm, after the Grey's Anatomy clip show.

The drama that replaced it, "October Road" will not complete its initial 6-episode order - ABC will have aired only 4 episodes through April 5.

Should the drama return for a second season the network will carry over the two remaining episodes to the fall (as it did with Grey's Anatomy in 2005).

The CW dramas that had been taken off the schedule to make way for the reality entry "The Search for the New Pussycat Doll" are coming back on Tuesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 2, respectively. Both dramas air at 9pm.

Farewell, "What About Brian"

ABC is airing the second season finale of "What About Brian" tonight after an all-new "Dancing with the Stars." Will that be the ultimate swan song for the J.J. Abrams produced series?

One of the biggest surprises last May at the Upfronts, was ABC's decision to renew its low-rated midseason drama "What About Brian" which was produced by the creator of ABC's hit shows Alias and LOST.

During the lackluster second season that included the casting of 90210 alum Tiffany Thiessen the ratings actually went 13% down from last spring's already disappointing levels and now the network may finally pull the plug.

Last week ABC announced the renewal of 11 shows including two dramas considered to be "on the bubble" - "Men In Trees" and "Boston Legal." That means the network may no longer have any available slots for a low-rated program.

ABC's pilot development is very strong this year and the network has received a lot of buzz for some of the projects, namely the US adaptation of the British series "Footballers' Wives", as well as the TV version of the big screen blockbuster "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" and Greg Berlanti's ('Brothers & Sisters') new drama "Dirty Sexy Money" described as 'Dynasty' meets 'Six Feet Under.'

If this is the end for Brian, he may not get the romantic closure he’s been seeking. In tonight’s episode, he’s still trying to figure out if he’s with the right woman.

Sean Faris Joins "Grey's Anatomy 2"

Kristin Veitch of E! Online has just revealed in her weekly Vine videocast that "Reunion" hottie Sean Faris has joined the cast of ABC's new medical drama, a spin-off of ratings powerhouse "Grey's Anatomy."

Faris and Kate Walsh's new boyfriend Dave Annable (see where I am going with this?) both starred in FOX's short-lived retro murder drama "Reunion" in the fall of 2005; the network canceled the eye candy heavy series before Christmas leaving the actor out of work for almost a year before he was cast alongside Gary Cole in the upcoming sports drama "Forever Strong."

Faris who is currently filming the thriller "Brooklyn To Manhattan" (set for release in 2008) about a group of young people and their drug deal gone wrong, was cast for the new ABC spin-off series as a receptionist.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan's TV Guide Interview

Jeffrey Dean Morgan who played Denny on ABC's blockbuster drama "Grey's Anatomy" has just revealed to TV Guide what the medical drama's upcoming clip show that he is hosting will look like, if it has jumped the shark and if Denny will ever come back.

According to Morgan, the clip show that recaps the third season so far will be much different than any of the clip shows in the past, because he will be hosting the show on-camera, not as a voice-over.

The special airs on April 12.

Morgan also said he didn't think "Grey's Anatomy" jumped the shark with the "Meredith Goes To Heaven" storyline (what else would he say?). The writing is spectacular, it's well acted and 30 million people watch it.

The actor originally thought he would be filming the February episode with Katherine Heigl, not Ellen Pompeo, so when he finally got to do the 'shoulder brush' scene with her it was sad and bittersweet because they spend much time together the previous year.

Although Jeffrey believes he will never come back to "Grey's Anatomy" again, he did not deny his "Supernatural" character (who also bit the dust earlier this season) would be coming back to the CW series.

Kate Walsh's "Best Life" Photo Shoot

Kate Walsh, a truly beautiful star of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" who may be headlining her own medical drama series come fall, appears in the April edition of "Best Life Magazine" dishing about her romantic life.

TV Ratings: "Grease" Goes Out With a Whimper

NBC aired the season (dare I say series) finale of the reality contest "Grease: You're The One I That I Want", but the announcement of the winning couple did little for the low-rated series as it managed to pull in only 6,78 million viewers, 190,000 more than last week.

Elsewhere, CBS easily won the night with its delayed line-up of "60 Minutes," "The Amazing Race," "Cold Case," and "Without a Trace" averaging 12,88 million total viewers from 7:38 PM ET.

The strongest link in NBC's disaster of all-reality line-up was a repeat of the game show "Deal Or No Deal" (9,59 million), while Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" lost half a million viewers to score a minuscule 6,75 million.

No, I will not make any jokes about Donald Trump and his ongoing comments about "The Apprentice" being the #1 show on television this week. Oh, shoot! Have I just done that again?

Finally on Sunday, ABC's line-up of repeats of "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers & Sisters" was second in total viewers, while FOX's animated comedy line-up was second in the crucial 18-49 demo.

Meanwhile, the Peyton Manning-hosted "Saturday Night Live" on Saturday earned the show’s highest household rating in more than 10 months in the metered markets, averaging a 5.9 rating and 15 share.

Finally some cable ratings from last week - the premiere of Oxygen's Tori & Dean: Inn Love was the network's most-viewed telecast in its seven-year history with women 18-49. The reality series drew 270,000 women in the demo and 459,000 total viewers last Tuesday at 10:30 p.m.

LOST Spoilers #314: "Expose": Die, Nikki and Paulo, Die!

Am I being too harsh in that post title? Then again I am only trying to reflect the overwhelming sentiment among fans of the ABC drama who resented the new "losties" Rodrigo Santoro (Paulo) and Kiele Sanchez (Nikki) ever since they appeared in episode #303. Are they really about to die? Is one of them gay?

Their lackluster stint on the show may now have run its course. There are spoilers (and possibly foilers) out there that claim Paulo gets shot in the head, bit by a deadly spider, buried alive or all of the above. In any event, they all agree: someone's kicking the bucket. The question is will it be Paulo? Or Nikki? Will it be both of them? Or even someone else?

According to an official press release, Hurley begins to suspect that Sawyer may be involved in an island mystery surrounding two fellow survivors, and Sun learns the truth about her past kidnapping attempt by "The Others."

What ABC hasn't told you and the spoiler sources claim is true is that Nikki and Paulo are searching for diamonds in the episode and they manage to retrieve them from the crash site.

They, however, encounter spiders whose byte can trigger paralysis as the victims appear clinically dead. After Nikki (who is a former stripper) arranges that Paulo succumbs to a spider byte, she gets bit herself. Or is it the other way around? Will Paulo be the one to set Nikki up?

As the tragic story of greed ends, the two are found by the losties, Sawyer digs up graves and they are buried alive.

Executive producer Damon Lindelof acknowledged that Nikki and Paulo are "universally despised" by fans, but said that would change, and vowed: "We had a plan when we introduced them, and we didn't get to fully execute that plan. But when the plan is executed, Nikki and Paulo will be iconic characters on the show."

Michael Ausiello of TV Guide has written: "Unfortunately, we're going to see a lot more of the dead weights on March 28 when they get their very own flashback episode. I know what you're thinking: Who wants to watch an entire episode devoted to those losers? I certainly didn't, until I found out who else was going to be in the episode: Shannon, Boone, Ethan and Mr. Artz! Plus, there's apparently a twist so shocking, watercoolers won't just be buzzing the next morning, they'll be exploding. (Please, God, let it be a double murder.)"

Indeed, William Mapother returns in the episode as Ethan Rom, Ian Somerhalder as Boone, Maggie Grace as Shannon and Daniel Roebuck as Dr. Artz. The episode will flash back to the day Oceanic flight 815 crashed on the island and tell us about these characters from a perspective we hadn't seen before.

The scene may also reveal how Ethan who ran to the crash site from Othersville mixed himself among the survivors, as well as the origin of diamonds. Dr. Artz will be warning Nikki about the spiders, which is how she will come up with that devious plan to get rid of Paulo.

Ever since the third season premiere and Kate's shower scene, fans have speculated that Mr. Friendly (a.k.a. Zeke, a.k.a. Tom) may be gay and may find Matthew Fox's Jack attractive (could you blame him?). It appears however that the gay character LOST fans have speculated about may in the end be either Nikki or Paulo.

Veteran actor Billy D. Williams will meanwhile make a special appearance in the episode and Jacob Witkin appears as Howard L. Zukerman, a 70ish, wealthy Australian TV producer who has many ex-wifes, a current wife, and a hot young girlfriend. He will presumably be tied to Nikki's flashback.

Finally, Charlie gets what he has had coming for a very long time. In the episode, Sun finally finds out who actually kidnapped her, she learns of Sawyer's involvement and the reveal of course causes problems between Charlie and Claire. She however decides not to tell Jin.

Do keep in mind some of these spoilers may be "foilers" leaked onto the Internet by the people behind the show, so do tune in to ABC this Wednesday at 10 to find out what really happens on the "Expose" episode of LOST.

Edie's new relationship with a man called Raoul will meet a bitter end prompting the sultry blonde to seek comfort in the arms of the man who has developed a strong bond with her son Travers.

Finally, expect another juicy catfight as Gabrielle meets Victor's former wife Penelope at the Fairview country club.
