"Friends" Reunion Movie?

Following success of HBO's "Sex and the City" on the big screen, Britain's Daily Mail says the cast of NBC's blockbuster comedy "Friends" is now on board a theatrical reunion project. But can Rachel really pull a Carrie? Plus, Matt LeBlanc's ex-manager wants Joey to show her the money!

According to Mail (whose stories one always needs to take with a grain of salt, I can never underline that enough), people behind one of NBC's biggest comedies ever are so eager to get their peace of 'TV Reunion on Big Screen' pie, that even Jennifer Aniston who's long been reluctant to do the project is finally on board.

Even if this really is an unsubstantiated rumor, would "Friends: The Movie" really fly? "Sex and the City" has! The 65 million movie has already surpassed all studio expectations as its current global box office gross has reached almost $315 million and may still rise somewhat in the weeks to come.

Both of these shows were signature comedies for their respective networks and they incidentally both ended in 2004 reuniting their core couples (Carrie & Big and Rachel % Ross). But I'm certain that simply copying "Sex's" movie plot by depicting complications arising from Rachel and Ross' wedding would draw some criticism.

Plus, despite being a half hour comedy "Sex and the City" was much more cinematic in its original TV format and got easily transferred onto the big screen. Doing the same with "Friends" might pose a bit of a challenge, as it was more of an old-fashioned multi-camera laugh track-laden comedy.

But nothing is impossible. You need to have the entire cast on board, come up with a really good script, and execute the movie well. The buzz will already be there since day one. The movie's basically pre-sold.

And if it worked for a 5-10 million viewer niche series on a premium cable network, why wouldn't it work for a 20-30 million viewer mass market comedy on a major broadcast network?

Besides, what has the cast done since the show ended?

Jennifer Aniston has released 5 movies, 3 of which bombed at the box office (she has another 6 in the pipeline).

Courtney Cox has had modest success with her just-canceled FX paparazzi-bashing drama "Dirt."

Lisa Kudrow works in low-profile indie projects, David Schwimmer is doing some directorial work, while Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc are keeping a low profile following the collapse of their prime-time shows "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" and "Joey."

Speaking of LeBlanc, a judge has decided yesterday, that his ex-manager's lawsuit in which she alleges he owes her a million dollars since 2000 would not be dismissed. The manager (who worked with LeBlanc the year he was cast in 'Friends') argues that she is entitled to 15% of his 'Friends' income.

Given the fact that every cast member was earning $1 million per episode in the show's final 2003-2004 season only, the figure the ex-rep is asking actually seems a bit low to me. The again who would want to throw a mil down the drain when their highly anticipated spin-off got so unceremoniously dumped?

VIDEO: "Dirt" Star Courtney Cox on Paparazzi

Stay away from Coco, you sleazebags! That's the message from Courtney Cox, who plays the ruthless tabloid magazine editor Lucy Spiller on FX's "Dirt," which launched 2nd season last night on the cable channel. Former "Friends" star also dishes on whether Jennifer Aniston...

...whom she had locked lips with last season, would be coming back to the show; if she has any compassion for the paparazzi; and why working with her husband David Aruqette is an amazing experience.

In last night's 2nd season opener, Courtney's uberbitch character survived her stabbing attack, woke up from a coma... and immediately started running "Dirt Now" magazine again.

The images were taken at last week's "Dirt: 2nd Season" premiere in Hollywood.

"Dirt" airs Sundays at 10 on FX. 7 episodes will air this season.

Courtney Cox's "Dirt" Returns March 2

Former "Friends" star Courtney Cox returns as ruthless tabloid magazine editor-in-chief Lucy Spiller in the second season of FX's critically-panned series "Dirt" on Sunday March 2.

Only 7 of the 13 episodes ordered have been filmed due to the recently concluded writers' strike. The network has however opted not to film any additional episodes this season regardless of the strike developments.

ABC Studio produces the drama with Cox's own production company Coquette Productions, which the actress owns with her husband David Arquette who is listed as the executive producer of the show.

The 1st season ended with Lucy being attacked with a knife and bleeding to death. In concluding moments of the episode, she makes a phone call to ensure that pictures of her bleeding make it onto the front page of the next issue of her magazine.

Cox's former "Friends" co-star Jennifer Anniston made a special guest appearance earlier in the episode. The stint, which included a lesbian kiss between the two ladies, was part of an effort to create additional buzz about the wannabe-controversial series.

Despite the poor reviews the show averaged 5-6 million viewers and it also did well in a number of international markets. The 2nd season may however end without a proper conclusion, as the writers' strike shut down production after completion of episode 7.

VIDEO: Jennifer Aniston & Courtney Cox "Lesbian" Kiss on "Dirt"

MARCH 28, 2007: What? That's it? That's what all the buzz was about? That's what the entire season of "Dirt" has led up to? Not that Courtney doesn't get stabbed in the end, but the whole series has been disappointing from the get-go, and this tepid scene was a reflection of that.

I may not be a connoisseur of sapphic love, but I did expect a little more than FX's "Dirt" was willing to deliver. And cutting to the man watching the ladies only reminded me of the dark age when FOX chickened out (in 1994) and cut out Doug Savant's gay kiss on "Melrose Place".

Having said that, it was great seeing Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox working together again and it made me miss the good old days of Must See TV and enjoying "Friends" on Thursdays.

Cox, Aniston "Friends" Forever

These fresh candid images of former "Friends" castmates Courtney Cox and Jennifer Aniston were taken yesterday as the actresses left a Memorial Day party in Malibu. The ladies who locked lips in the most over-hyped lesbian plot on television this year...

...may get down to business once again as earlier this year FX greenlit a second season for the paparazzi mag drama "Dirt" that has left many among the television critics with a bad taste in their mouth. The next 13-episode batch is expected to premiere in January 2008.

Courtney's "Dirty" Finger

Former "Friends" star Courtney Cox was yesterday clearly not in the mood to have her picture taken as she showed the paparazzi her finger and ran away.

The obvious failure of her FX series "Dirt" to generate viewer or critical praise and recent rumors of her marital problems may have something to do with this behavior.

Courtney Cox & Jennifer Aniston To Share a Lesbian Kiss On "Dirt"

You may have heard Jennifer Aniston will guest star on the season finale of Courtney Cox's FX series "Dirt" in late March. What you may not have heard is that the two former "Friends" stars will share a liplock in the episode.

Few details have emerged about the March 27 episode of "Dirt", but TV Guide has revealed that Jennifer Aniston will guest star as rival tabloid editor Tina Harrod who happens not only to be Cox's archenemy, but also a lesbian who finds Cox's character Lucy Spiller a very attractive woman. The scene was filmed last week on Thursday.

The two stars used the opportunity at last week's Television Critics Association conference in Pasadena to dismiss rumors of a possible "Friends" reunion show saying it would be too difficult to bring the entire cast back together.
