Televisionista Returns Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 9:00am EDT

Thank you for all the kind and worried messages that I have (given the volume) unfortunately not had time to respond to. I am perfectly fine, but I have not been able to access the blog/update due to certain concerns with Google's Blogger.

I am working on bringing the blog back, no later than September 1 (just in time for CW and FOX premieres), although I hope it happens much sooner.

Should the blog end up getting deleted (perish the thought), it will return at a platform/domain different than Blogger's Blogspot (although it appears I will be moving it in the near future regardless).

Thanks again and see you soon,

J

Reader Survey Results

The results are in! Check them out, after the jump.

First, I would like to say how overwhelmed I am by the volume of interest to participate in the survey.

I can't thank you enough for helping me out when it seemed I had reached a crossroad, unsure how to proceed.

There were some responses I was surprised by, there were some issues I had already suspected. All in all - your feedback was priceless.

Special gratitude goes for answering a number of personal questions; your responses and demo statistics will be crucial for future advertising agreements.

On to the results.

CONTENT:

It is very difficult to single out any part of the content (TV news, spoilers, recaps, previews, videos, celebrity news, etc.) as the most or the least popular. They all appear to be equally appealing.

UPDATE FREQUENCY:

Obviously, the greatest concern remains with the frequency of updates. The majority of you would prefer to see the updates on weekdays, although some had even said they wouldn't mind the blog being updated only 2-3 times per week, as long as there was some consistency.

A select few however can't have enough updates, and want them around the clock, including weekends. The blog being my hobby, I certainly can't commit to any full-time schedules, but I will do my best to focus my efforts on the working week and some kind of consistency which is crucial in blog success.

DESIGN:

I was somewhat surprised (and relieved) to hear that most of you are happy with the blog design. I had thought many of you would find it tedious and prefer to see something more lively and colorful.

But over 90% of you believe "it's not broken" and therefore "no need to fix it", urging me to keep it the way it is, although some did suggest a small update. Those of you who dislike it, really seem to hate it with a passion, though. :)

CELEBRITY COVERAGE:

As far as the celebrities are concerned, there have been many suggestions what people to cover more frequently. Most of you however didn't have a suggestion and none of the names mentioned were predominant choices.

On the flip side, most of you don't seem to be getting tired of any celebrities already being covered by the blog. Several names however did pop up repeatedly, namely Eva Longoria Parker, the cast of "Gossip Girl" and Katherine Heigl.

MOVIE NEWS & NON-TV COVERAGE:

The question concerning the inclusion of non-TV celebrities like Britney, the Beckhams or Brangelina and adding movie news was a really tricky one. There was a clear division on this one - about half of you wouldn't mind expanding the blog focus at all. The other half however said a very loud and categorical: NO!

Some of you who have visited the blog for over a year, may remember that last summer I had already tried to include more non-TV coverage. The results were mixed and by the time the new TV season began, I ran out of time to focus on movies, because there was so much to cover on TV.

A number of you believe the blog focus is clear: television and it should remain that way as there are too many entertainment blogs out there already covering Hollywood A-listers and tabloid trainwrecks. I have not made a final decision on this, so I'll give movie news and A-listers another try over the summer and we'll see how it goes.

TV SHOWS:

There have been a few suggestions for shows currently not covered by the blog, but the vast majority of you is happy with the current show line-up and don't need to see any changes.

Some of the shows suggested were crime procedurals and cable shows, but there wasn't a single show suggested repeatedly by the majority of respondents.

Given Televisionista's focus on female-centric and gay-friendly serialized dramas (with several notable exceptions like "24"), I will simply add a couple of new shows from the networks' fall line-up that would fit into the current roster.

LOADING TIME:

I was very happy to hear that over 97% of people who filled in the survey, did not have any difficulties loading the blog in their browsers.

In fact, a couple of people even said Televisionista is one of the fastest loading blogs they visit. Go figure.

For this reason, even if I do give the blog design a tiny facelift in September, I'll make sure I stay away from any elements that might increase the loading time.

COMMENT MODERATION:

The majority of you don't have any problems with comments moderation. You are all very well aware that some people in cyberspace simply can not be trusted as several incidents last year confirmed.

Although I am on one hand aware of the fact that comment moderation prevents some people from leaving any comments at all and therefore limits discussion on the blog, I would prefer to keep things under control.

Heated e-fights and throwing around vulgarities / insults certainly needs to be nipped in the bud.

NAVIGATION:

I was very happy to hear that, again apart from a select few, hundreds of you who responded to this survey did not have any problems with navigation on the site.

You may have already noticed I have now centered the available pull-down menu, while merging it with the second one which was rather unnecessary.

Also, new links should make it easier to subsrcibe to Televisionista feeds by email or on your cell phone.

SUBSCRIPTION:

Speaking of feeds, there have been several suggestions concerning the RSS as well as email subscription. For this reason, I decided to cut those lengthy feed posts to teasers (similar to those you see if you visit the homepage).

That should keep subscription emails shorter and major spoilers invisible. You will however need to click on the headlines that attract your attention and visit the website if you wish to read the rest of the story.

GUEST BLOGGERS:

Apart from several readers who, again said a very loud "hell, no!" :), most of you are open to guest bloggers appearing on Televisionista with their input.

Many of you however believe they should maintain the voice of the blog and adhere to the type of coverage you are used to seeing.

This was simply an idea I had to add content and variety to the blog, but I still have to think it through and see what would be the best way to execute it.

One of the possibilities is to have different people recapping shows the morning after they air.

I normally find this very challenging, as I tend to spend too much time producing such posts, and if I'm supposed to recap 2-3 shows, plus come up with the regular coverage, it's too much for me to handle, as I realized last fall.

Finally, allow me to repeat how very helpful you have been with the survey and thank you all once again for taking time out of your busy schedules to respond to my questions and help me produce a better blog in the future.

I hope you will enjoy what I come up with in the months to come.

I wish everyone a fun, long and hot summer.

Justin

Dear Televisionista Readers...

After almost two TV seasons of existence, the moment has come for the Televisionista blog to...

...undergo some serious changes. Obviously, it will have something to do with the frequency of updates, but there's a lot more that I would like to know before the next TV season begins and that is why I came up with a little survey.

Those of you who have enjoyed the blog over a certain period of time (be it two years, or just two weeks) are more than welcome to contact me at my email address justin_vandekamp@hotmail.com

If you have a few moments to spare, I would send you a little 20-question reader survey in a Word document, which I would kindly ask you to fill in, save the changes, and send back to the same email address.

It may not be the most convenient way for you to participate in the survey, but I didn't want to post any polls on the blog, for technical and other reasons.

Once you get the survey, you may fill in all the questions, or just a select few (simply omit those you do not wish to answer), whatever feedback you are able to send, I will greatly appreciate it, and use it to improve the blog quality.

Having said that I will say that regular updates, and I really mean regular this time, will resume on Tuesday, July 1.

Yes, I'm aware that I have made all kinds of promises before, so I guess you'll just have to trust me on this one. :)

Basically the idea is, SAG strike or no SAG strike, to get ready for the upcoming season in July and August with a bunch of posts on the upcoming new TV season and then cover it every step of the way, once our favorite shows return in September.

A huge thank you to all of you who will be kind enough to take part in the survey, and to everyone else, I hope you're having a great summer and hope to see you here soon.

Updates Return Saturday Morning @ 9:00am

Despite my best efforts I was regretfully forced to take some time away from the blog again. I am happy to say though, the hiatus is finally over. The updates will resume this Saturday morning at 9:00am Eastern. I'll begin with...

...a review of the past week including my take on Luke and Noah's new kiss, James Van Der Beek's "Mother" appearance, OMFG Gossip Girl controversy, Lucy Liu's Dirty Sexy role, hot spoilers from Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, Gossip Girl, Grey's Anatomy, Lost (and more), TV ratings for the entire past week and celeb news including hot new pics of Lipstick Jungle hunk Robert Buckley, Ugly Betty's fab vixen Becki Newton, and Wisteria Lane's sexiest housewife Eva Longoria Parker.

All this and much more will be posted in the course of the weekend and then beginning Monday you'll be able to see regular daily updates (promises, promises... right? ...LOL...)

Apologies to all of you who regularly check this blog for your daily fix of TV related news and pictures. And many thanks for coming back.

Televisionista Updates

I am leaving on a 5-day holiday on Saturday and I'm not sure if I'll be able to update the blog. If I do, I'll post a few updates with ratings or major news/spoilers that I come across. Otherwise...

...I'll post ratings for Friday-Wednesday on Thursday afternoon and resume regular updates on Friday morning (2/29/08). I wish you all a great week of television and thanks again for stopping by.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

As we're counting down towards the end of 2007, I'll be revisiting the past 12 months and looking back at some of the moments in TV showbusiness that I found memorable. I will republish about 150 out of 2500 articles that I posted in 2007 over the next 4 days ending on New Year's Day. Then on Wednesday, January 2 - it's back to business as usual.

2008 will of course begin with a great deal of uncertainty in the TV and movie business in the US due to the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike. The consequences of this labor dispute we are only about to experience as one by one our most beloved shows run out of fresh episodes and disappear from prime-time schedules.

The Televisionista blog will be bringing you up to date on the progress of the situation including the information regarding the return of your favorite shows. Although the focus may temporarily shift to tabloid-style updates on TV stars, you'll be also seeing the latest ratings data and updates on high-profile shows that do make it onto the air, namely ABC's "LOST."

A new series of posts titled "Flashback Saturdays" will run on weekends beginning January 5 in which I will go 5, 10, 20 or more years back in time to revisit a number of interesting moments in TV history that helped shape TV as it is today. Think of it as "Televisionista Goes TV Land".

The first edition of "Flashback Saturdays" will go back to 1988 when a very similar yet also a very different strike crippled the TV industry. How did the strike affect the TV shows then, how was it ultimately resolved and how big was the damage? You may find some of the details very surprising. Initially, I plan to keep "Flashback Saturdays" themed - each weekend I'll tap into a different topic.

Finally, I have recently realized that December 2007 will be a record-breaking month for the blog. Not only has the traffic tripled since the beginning of the season, but more visitors will have come to Televisionista this month than any month before, which I find personally very satisfying given the fact that because of the holidays the traffic levels normally go down in December. I have only you to thank.

I wish all of you a very happy, healthy and peaceful 2008!

Comments Restored

Although 99% of visitors of 'Televisionista' do not post comments on the blog, for those of you who do, here is a quick notice on the change in settings which I have decided upon due to a recent spam attack.

I initially disabled comments from anonymous posters, meaning you would have to have a Google or Blogger account in order to post a comment.

Since this change in settings would also negatively impact comments with constructive input, I reconsidered that and ultimately decided to moderate comments.

That means you are still welcome to post comments, but they will no longer be published instantly - all comments will await mine or other blog administrator's approval.

In other words, instead of having to track down advertising of pharmaceuticals or comments containing vulgar language, racial or homophobic slurs and other hate speech, I can simply reject them prior to publishing.

Please take into account, Televisionista is practically a fansite for all the TV shows it covers. Although constructive criticism is encouraged, repetitive malicious comments will not be welcome.

Although most of the visitors prefer to simply enjoy the content without leaving any comments, I hope those of you who do will understand the reasons behind my decision.

Thanks again for being here and have a great day! :)

Top-10 TELEVISIONISTA Posts in September

One year after its launch, the TELEVISIONISTA blog has enjoyed yet another month of growth with well over 200,000 pageviews. Many thanks to all of you who made that happen. Here is now the rundown of 10 most popular posts in September.

#10 GREY'S ANATOMY SPOILERS: #4.01 "A Change is Gonna Come"

The most popular show on television (and this blog as well) was back last week with the season premiere episode "A Change is Gonna Come." Did Shonda Rhimes fulfill her promise to make Seattle Grace a much more fun place to visit on Thurdsay nights?

#09 ZAC EFRON HITS THE BEACH

Nothing like a bunch of good old-fashioned beach pics to spark up a rainy morning. This month, "High School Musical" star Zac Efron made a splash with this collection of sexy images taken during his vacation in Hawaii.

#8 DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES: SEASON 4 PROMO STILLS

We waited for these official promo stills of the ladies from Wisteria Lane a bit longer than last year, but that only made the interest in them stronger. The new images also capture the current storylines.

#7 BROTHERS & SISTERS SPOILERS: #205

Being the 3rd most popular show on this blog "Brothers & Sisters" always generates a lot of pageviews. And what could be more fun than jumping several episodes ahead to see what happens next to the crazy Walker clan.

#6 CANDIS CANE BREAKS TRANSGENDER GROUND

ABC's amazing new sudser "Dirty Sexy Money" has generated a lot of buzz during the summer (deservingly, I might add), but the post getting the most pageviews was this early August article about the transgender entertainer Candis Cane and her groundbreaking role on the show.

#5 GREY'S ANATOMY SEASON 4 STILLS

The new stills of the cast of ABC's blockbuster "Grey's Anatomy" reflected changes brought about the dismissal of actor Isaiah Washington, promotion of guest star Chyler Leigh, and the departure of star Kate Walsh to headline her own spin-off.

#4 DAILY EYE CANDY: MARIOS LEKKAS

These not-so-daily (I promise to improve the frequency) features of the hottest male models in the fashion business have proven to be a very popular addition to the blog over the summer, and Greek god Marios Lekkas was the hottest of all generating sufficient number of pageviews to enter the top-10.

#3 PRISON BREAK SPOILERS #304: "Good Fences"

The twists and turns on FOX's gritty drama "Prison Break" always keep the fans guessing about what's ahead for Michael Scofield and an entire gang of wacky characters. The latest PB spoiler post was published just 3 days before the end of the month and yet it made it to the top-3.

#2 WENTWORTH MILLER & LUKE MACFARLANE PICS

Is he or isn't he gay? You may think it's none of people's business to discuss Wentworth Miller's personal life, but there are a lot of folks out there keeping the rumors alive as they search for details of "Prison Break" star's alleged relationship with the "Brothers & Sisters" actor Luke MacFarlane.

#1 IS WENTWORTH MILLER GAY?

This is the original late June post about the rumors and yes, after all this time it's still 4 times more popular than the #2 post on the list which incidentally covers the same topic.

The 5 most popular shows (out of 17) covered by TELEVISIONISTA in September were:

1. GREY'S ANATOMY,
2. DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES,

3. BROTHERS & SISTERS,

4. UGLY BETTY AND

5. PRISON BREAK

Top-10 Celebrities on TELEVISIONISTA

Finally, before I get back to regular news and updates, here are the 10 most popular celebrities - male and female - on the Televisionista blog. It is no secret I like to focus on male beauty and TV hunkage, but I do tend to write quite a bit about a number of female celebrities, including Katherine Heigl, Evangeline Lilly and Hayden Panettiere. Surprisingly, only 3 female celebrities made the top-10 among readers of this blog and they may not necessarily be the aforementioned ladies.

1. WENTWORTH MILLER
2. PATRICK DEMPSEY
3. ERIC DANE
4. ISAIAH WASHINGTON
5. MILO VENTIMIGLIA
6. RACHEL BILSON
7. EVA LONGORIA
8. KATE WALSH
9. MATTHEW FOX
10. DAVE ANNABLE

What a shocker! There have been numerous updates on Heigl, Lilly and Panettiere and yet Rachel Bilson of the canceled "The O.C." has exceeded all of them.

In fact, readers of this blog appear to be more interested in "Brothers & Sisters" hunk Dave Annable (pictured above with "Grey's" new star Chyler Leigh on FOX's "Reunion") then they are in some of the biggest female celebrities of the small screen. I guess that says something about your average Televisionista reader. :)

Finally, Isaiah Washington is also pretty high on the list, but I would suspect that ranking was achieved for all the wrong reasons.

Top-10 Shows on TELEVISIONISTA

We all know what the most watched shows in America are (well, at least some of us do), but which 10 shows did the visitors of this blog read most about over the past year? The results are of course affected by my choice of topics and the frequency I write about them, as well as how strong the competition is. For instance, not too many blogs published regular updates about "Brothers & Sisters" making Televisionista the blog of choice for some fans of that ABC show.

1. GREY'S ANATOMY
2. DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES
3. BROTHERS & SISTERS
4. UGLY BETTY
5. FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS
6. LOST
7. THE O.C.
8. PRISON BREAK
9. HEROES
10. PRIVATE PRACTICE

I suppose as many as 3 of last season's freshman shows did well on this blog for the aforementioned reasons. Competition among blogs and websites covering ABC's "LOST" is particularly stiff, so I am not surprised "Friday Night Lights" did better on a young blog like this one. Also, there were quite a few updates about "24," "American Idol," "Smallville" and many other shows, but they failed to make the cut.

Top-20 TELEVISIONISTA Posts

Almost 2000 posts have been published on the Televisionista blog over the past year. Which 20 stories sparked the strongest interest of regular readers or casual surfers? Find out, after the jump.

10. LOST Newspaper Mystery

After the brilliant May cliffhanger of ABC's "LOST" - as always - there were numerous unanswered questions. One of those questions - when exactly is the flash forward taking place? - may have been answered.

09. The Intriguing Mr. Hodge

Following "Desperate Housewives'" lackluster second season and all that Applewhite nonsense, the show got back into high gear with a compelling new mystery - is Orson Hodge dangerous, what happened to his wife Alma and who killed Monique?

08. Wentworth Miller/Luke MacFarlane Pics

Fans of "Prison Break" star Wentworth Miller speculated over his reported relationship with "Brothers & Sisters" star Luke MacFarlane before the pictures of the alleged couple finally arrived in late August.

07. McCuddly's Beau?

Before he got into gossip blogs for supposedly dating Wentworth Miller, Luke MacFarlane was rumored to be the boyfriend of "Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight.

06. Will Meredith Die?

The "Grey's Anatomy" 3-episode sweeps stunt may not have been better than the infamous Super Bowl "bomb" episode a year earlier, but fans of the red-hot medical drama wanted to know if the show's titular heroine would survive.

05. LOST to Drop Story Bomb

After LOST ended its mini-season last fall, many fans were disappointed with those grim Others-centered early season 3 episodes and wanted to find out if we'll ever get to see the original gang again.

04. "Desperate Housewives" Shocker

This is the episode everyone was talking about. This is the episode that made up for a dreadful second season. This is the episode we will never forget.

03. First Look at "Grey's Sweeps Stunt

Shonda Rhimes wanted to pull out all stops for a spectacular February sweeps event. But after ABC looked at the budget necessary to execute the storyline they asked the "Grey's Anatomy" creator to stretch the story into 3 episodes.

02. LOST Production Mistake?

The day after LOST fall finale aired I noticed there was a person in the official LOST production stills we did not see on screen. Was that just an error or did we miss something very important. Little did I know this fun post which was conceived more as a joke would spark an Internet debate and generate tens of thousands of pageviews.

01. Is Wentworth Miller Gay?

The post may have been published in late June, but in those three months it managed to generate 2 times more pageviews than the #2 story on this list. Some believe it is wrong to speak about that unless Wentworth Miller is ready to come out. If indeed he is gay, that is. Nevertheless, there are thousands of people trying to find out every day if Mr. Miller is gay or not.

Finally, here are the 10 stories rounding out the top-20.

11. First Look at "Private Practice"

12. "Grey's" Wins Favorite Drama

13. "Prison Break" Hiatus Cut Short

14. CSI Miniature Killer Strikes Again

15. Is Ryan Seacrest Gay? Simon Says "Come Out"

16. VIDEO: Celine & Elvis

17. New "Desperate" Stills

Televisionista is 1

One year ago I came across an article titled "How to Publish a Blog." Intrigued, I decided to give it a shot. And look what the frak happened.

Although Televisionista is far from breaking any blogosphere records, having grown from about 10 people who came to visit that first day to over 100,000 unique visitors over the past month is indeed very rewarding to see, so one giant "thank you" to all of you who made it happen is most definitely in order.

Speaking in TV slang, I guess it is obvious that means Televisionista "has been renewed for a second season." Of course, should the numbers - for any reason - go dramatically down, I suppose - keeping in line with TV analogy - that may warrant "pulling the plug" or "swinging the axe," but hey - perish that thought.

The blog will continue to bring the mix of listed TV shows' updates and spoilers as well as celebrity news and gossip, but feel free to leave a comment or send me an email if you have any suggestions, or criticism, be it positive or negative. Feedback is always highly appreciated.

Thanks again and have an exciting, emotional and heart-pounding new TV season.

Top-10 TELEVISIONISTA Posts in July

There are now almost 1700 posts available on Televisionista.Net. Which 10 stories got the highest number of pageviews over the past 31 days? Take a look at them one last time, after the jump. Plus, details about Televisionista's new update schedule.

You may have noticed consistency in the frequency of updates was an issue on Televisionista over the past couple of months, ever since the end of the regular TV season.

We have now reached the middle of the summer and that means that the production of most of your favorite shows is in full swing now. Spoilers, promotional stills, video previews are all emerging now, so it is time to get back to regular updates.

As of tomorrow, August 2, Televisionista will bring you at least 10 posts on any working day, two of which will be daily columns Daily Eye Candy and StarPix which proved to be a hit with many of you.

The first 5 updates including Daily Eye Candy will be published by 9:00 AM EST / 6:00 AM PST. The remaining 5 updates including StarPix will be available later in the day or by 6:00 PM EST/ 3:00 PM PST at the latest.

There will be only 3-5 updates on Saturdays, and then an additional 5-7 updates on Sundays (including Daily Eye Candy and StarPix: Weekend). Also, you can find the latest Box Office reports on Sunday mornings.

Televisionista will resume daily TV ratings reports on Monday, September 17 in the week marked by the Emmy telecast and FOX premieres.

I certainly hope the new schedule will bring you a lot more to look forward to on Televisionista.Net.

Now, on to the countdown:

10. SUMMER HOLIDAYS McSTEAMY STYLE

Are the fans of Dr. Mark "McSteamy" Sloan happy to catch any glimpse of the body that kept temperature rising ever since the infamous towel scene or was it Rebecca Gayheart's boobs that landed this post into the top-10?

9. HAPPY 30th BIRTHDAY MILO VENTIMIGLIA

He's a big boy now! The hunky actor who plays our favorite Petrelli brother on NBC's "Heroes" Milo Ventimiglia celebrated his big 3-oh in early July being cute and adorable as photographers snapped away.

8. OK MAGAZINE BRITNEY STORY REVEALED

The celeb tabloid leaked information about Britney's photo shoot "meltdown" episode generating little more than a yawn once we realized what they leaked was all they had.

7. HAYDEN PANETIERRE'S BIKINI GALORE

Good ole bikini spreads. They never fail to generate interest. Especially when you get to see the breakout star of one of TV's biggest rookie hits, NBC's "Heroes." For the rest of us, Hayden's boyfriend Stephen Coletti added the sizzle.

6. PHOTOSHOPPERS ATTACK VICTORIA BECKHAM

Her legs can't look that awful, can they? The British celeb who generated a lot of buzz with her move to America sparked an online debate whether these candid images had been photoshopped or not.

5. BECKHAMS W PHOTO SHOOT

The Beckhams were everywhere during the month of July and one of the projects that helped keep them in the headlines was this ultrasexy photoshoot for the August edition of W Magazine that gave many of us something to drool over.

4. DAILY EYE CANDY: PEDRO ANDRADE

Daily Eye Candy proved to be a very popular series on this blog, but none of the hunks showcased in the month of July generated as much interest as out singer Lance Bass' new boyfriend Pedro Andrade.

3. ABC's TRAVELER UNLIKELY TO RETURN

How could they do that to us? ABC's merciless axe had swung killing the freshman thriller series that got a small but very loyal following in the quiet summer months. ABC later explained they were "not happy with the creative direction of the show."

2. PRODUCTION ON GREY'S ANATOMY: SEASON 4 BEGINS

Sometimes I feel all I have to do is write the title "Grey's Anatomy" and then repeat the name of that show 25 times in the accompanying text and it will still be the most popular post. You really love those crazy docs at Seattle Grace. You really do.

1. "PRISON BREAK" STAR WENTWORTH MILLER GAY & DATING "BROTHERS & SISTERS" ACTOR LUKE MACFARLANE?

Wentworth Miller can't be gay! Can he? No. I don't believe that. But we never see him dating a woman. Do we? Why do all cute guys have to be gay!? He says he's not gay. It's none of your business anyway! How dare you out gay actors!? It's wrong! Is it? They are a very cute couple. What?!!! Wentworth Miller?!!! Are you crazy? He's straight. I know. My sister slept with him. No, she didn't. How do you know...?
