"Melrose" Vixens' Reunion
Wednesday night in Los Angeles, "Desperate Housewives" star Marcia Cross reunited with her "Melrose Place" co-star and wife of Doug Savant, fellow "Desperate" star and another 'Melrose' veteran, Laura Leighton. Unlike their on-screen catfights, the Sky Bar red carpet get-together was much more amicable.
Back in the 1990s, Marcia Cross (Bree Van De Kamp on 'Desperate Housewives') starred in one of the campiest prime-time soap operas on network television, FOX's "Melrose Place", as mentally instable Dr. Kimberly Shaw.
The character caused numerous controversies (including the infamous wig-and-scar scene) and ended up destroying the entire "Melrose Place" apartment complex in a sensational end-of-season cliffhanger in 1995.
Laura Leighton played Kimberly's nemesis, Sydney Andrews, who took away Kimberly's lover Dr. Michael Mancini, after Kimberly herself took Michael away from Sydney's sister Jane. Confused?
Doug Savant (Tom Scavo on 'Desperate Housewives') played goodie two shoes gay neighbor Matt Fielding who often tried to intervene and break up his catfighting female neighbors.
In real life, Doug and Iowa-native Laura fell in love on the set of the series and got married in 1998. They have two children together.
The Wednesday's event "Modern Mom Mingle" took place in the trendy Sky Bar at the Mondrian hotel in Los Angeles and benefited the Children's Health Environmental Coalition.
