"Desperate Housewives" at Cate Adair Handbag Launch

Last Sunday was quite an extraordinary day on Wisteria Lane as Susan clashed with her rich boyfriend's butler, Lynette accused her neighbor of being a pedophile and Bree kicked her husband out of her house.

In real life, however, the cast of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" seemed to be having even more fun as they got together to help their Emmy-winning costume designer Cate Adair launch her own luxurious handbag line, the Cate Adair Collection at the Etoile-sponsored event at a private residence in L.A.

As we count down the remaining hours to the Christmas-cheer filled episode of "D
esperate Housewives" (the final installment for 2006) here are some of the images from last week's event featuring Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman (sporting a new do) and the showrunner Marc Cherry. One of the stars absent from the event was Teri Hatcher who is rumored to have clashed with Longoria over dating her ex boyfriend.

As for the star of the evening, with designer labels from Armani to Prada to choose from, one might think Cate Adair and her team have no problem dressing Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross. But, in fact, she and her Hollywood stylists work 14-hour days, scouring everything from vintage stores to swap meets for the housewives' looks.

The British-born designer confesses she has a passion for accessories that has now spilled over into her personal life. "I've always loved accessories," she says. "I think they're fun, I think they're sexy, I think they give you a lift."

Her handbags, wristlets and totes are made of soft Italian leather dyed in bright tropical colors, like orange and teal, and sculpted in practical yet eye-pleasing shapes.

The bags are available at Bloomingdale's in New York and San Francisco, and in Los Angeles boutiques such as Fred Segal, as well as more stores around the country on www.cateadair.com.

Although show guidelines prevent her from using them on the hit ABC series, she says the housewives have already put in their own personal orders for the bags.
