NBC Announces "Heroes" Spin-Off

NBC has announced that it will produce 30 episodes of its hottest drama "Heroes" next season, a part of which will air under a new name "Heroes: Origins" and will feature completely different characters.

The viewers will be given an opportunity to vote for their favorite characters who will then join the mothership series.

That means the show would be pre-empted no more than 5 times during the course of the season, presumably during the holidays or if there is a special live event telecast.

The move is designed to help NBC battle the sinking ratings for the show which recently fell from 14-16 million total viewers to a little over 11 million.
