Hillary Duff To Join "Brothers and Sisters"?
"Brothers and Sisters" execs at ABC have yet to make the final decision who will play William Walker's love child Rebecca on Sunday night's hit drama, but the latest behind-the-scenes reports claim Hillary Duff may be a strong contender.
Ever since it became clear we would be seeing Rebecca, the illegitimate daughter of the late Walker family patriarch (played by Tom Skerritt in the show's pilot as well as the November sweeps flashback episodes) and his lover Holly (played by the show's executive producer Ken Olin's wife and "thirtysomething" co-star Patricia Wettig, pictured above), the fans have been speculating who would get the part.
One of the names mentioned, Olin's and Wettig's real-life daughter Roxy, ended up getting the role of Michelle, closeted gay actor Chad's (Jason Lewis) girlfriend.
The other name mentioned was Emily Van Camp whose casting was suggested by her former "Everwood" mentor Greg Berlanti. Recently, "Brothers and Sisters" camp confirmed the viewers would NOT be seeing her in the role.
Now, TV Guide's Michael Ausiello reports the execs are aggressively pursuing Hillary Duff, in what may only be seen as stunt casting.
Whether or not Duff gets the part in the end or not the final casting decision will have to be made soon.
The show's execs recently cast Jason Lewis (Sex and the City) and Marion Ross (Happy Days) in separate storylines.

I love Hilary Duff as much as the next gay guy, but come on...her acting is very one dimensional for now. And she caters really for the teenyboppers who grew up with her Lizzie Macguire series. I know, she was part of the Disney/Touchstone family and B&S is part of Touchstone, but this is really pushing it to the brim.
I don't think she currently has the acting chops to really fit into the role of Rebecca. I mean, she barely fits into the dramatic side of Brothers & Sisters. Maybe 10 years down the road...until I can see something where she isn't playing herself or something like Lizzie, and sheds her teenage image, then maybe she could be believable. Until then, just the name of Hilary Duff in a serious drama can be such a turn-off to serious viewers, like myself.
