ABC Music Videos
AUGUST 15, 2007: ABC will premiere a re-recorded music video "Big Girl" by Mika touting the upcoming season of its Thursday night smash comedy "Ugly Betty." According to Hollywood Reporter, the Alphabet network is the only broadcast net in the US using music videos to promote its shows. ABC is expected to premiere a total of 11 music videos this season. Take a look at last season's entries after the jump.
Last season, ABC produced as many as 3 videos for "Grey's Anatomy" -- for Brandi Carlile's "The Story," the Fray's "How to Save a Life" and Snow Patrol's "Chasing Cars."
The network also promoted "Ugly Betty" with a video by Jason Mraz entitled "The Beauty in Ugly," "LOST" with former Westlife singer Bryan McFadden's "Demons" and "Desperate Housewives" with a new version of classic rock track "You Really Got Me."
The ladies of Wisteria Lane have already gotten a new music video for this season. ABC premiered a montage of past "Desperate" moments as well as some new scenes with Dana Delany and Nathan Fillion to Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" on July 27.
Tomorrow ABC premieres "Betty Girl," a new version of Mika's song "Big Girl" with scenes from season 1 of "Ugly Betty." Expect to hear the song in upcoming 30-second promos for "Ugly Betty."
ABC believes its unique strategy to promote shows with music is more effective than the traditional 30-second format as the music helps make a stronger emotional connection between the content of the show and the audience.
