Melinda Doolittle Voted Off "American Idol"
Melinda Doolittle, the contestant many had believed would go on to win "American Idol 2007," was voted off tonight as a glum judge Simon Cowell covered his face with his hands upon hearing the news.
The most consistent performer throughout this year's competition as she never hit a bad note, the 29-year old backup singer from Brentwood, Tenn. was an early favorite of all three judges.
Hands down the best singer in this year's competition, Doolittle received the highest praise of the judges on Tuesday night with Simon Cowell saying without any doubt she deserved a place in the finals.
With the best singer now gone, some of the stronger singers eliminated early in the competition, an overall weaker cast, ratings going south and of course, the whole Sanjaya phenomenon, this has not been one of the best year's for the FOX blockbuster.
17-year old Jordin Sparks and 25-year old Blake Lewis who have both had their share of ups and downs will battle it out in the finale next week. Obviously, it is impossible to predict which one of the two will go on to win the competition.

Melinda TOTALLY deserved to win the competition. It has been obvious since day one. But I'm not totally shocked. Look at past history with better singers being voted off. I think the twinkie/tweenie factor is at play, Melinda was just incredibly sophisticated in her song choices (old school) and I think that the people who vote are just way too young to appreciate the quality to Melinda. Blake and Jordin appeal to that group. They are both fun (especially Blake), it's difficult to predict who will take it now.
Melinda will be OK. Did you notice she actually looked relieved? She'll have a solid career I have a feeling...
