TV Ratings: Unstoppable American Idol
Wednesday night FOX's "American Idol" continued to crush all competition in its path as the second part of the season premiere delivered 36,87 million viewers from 8-10pm, more than all other networks combined.
Since FOX will be airing a one-hour edition of "Idol" next week, NBC was right to replace this week's new episode of "Friday Night Lights" with a rerun (it scored less than 5 million viewers).
Much worse was the impact on new ABC comedies at 9pm. "Knights of Prosperity" delivered only 3,91 million and "In Case of Emergency" at 9:30 sunk to
3,43 million. On the other hand, what else could ABC expect from new sitcoms airing opposite "American Idol"?
NBC's "Deal Or No Deal" managed to deliver rather decent 9 million viewers opposite "Idol", but its 10pm drama "Medium" continues to suffer in its new timeslot. Although it held on to the "Deal" audience, the drama did much better in its old Monday timeslot.
As expected, CBS's procedural line-up did very well. Criminal Minds and CSI: NY both managed to lure almost 14 million viewers. Earlier in the evening, its reality flop "Armed & Famous" got very little Nielsen love from only 6 million viewers.
