TV Ratings: "Idol" Beats a Bunch of Losers

"Friday Night Lights" is hardly a loser. It is a beautiful and compelling drama that can make any network proud. But when FOX unleashes that mammoth dragon called "American Idol" all crashes and burns in the lick of its deadly fire.

Originally, FOX was going to air a one-hour episode of its reality show, but the network always gets greedy when it sees the gigantic season premiere numbers. And last night was no exception.

"Idol" opened the night for FOX with 27,72 million viewers, quickly rising to as many as 36,88 million by 9pm, to end the telecast with 33,56 million average.

Almost everything was destroyed in its path, as NBC aired a new episode of "Friday Night Lights" which hit season-low (5,91 million).

CBS's reality show "Armed & Famous" went down to 4,75 million. I have a hunch we will not be seeing a second season of that nonsense.

At 9pm, ABC's new comedies The Knights of Prosperity (3,58 million) and "In Case of Emergency (2,98 million) were as good as dead.

Only NBC's suitcase show did some respectable business with 10,05 million, as did a Criminal Minds rerun with 9,6 million.

The second most-watched program of the evening was CBS's 10pm drama "CSI: New York" with below-average 13,41 million viewers.

Finally, the least watched program was an all-new episode of "One Tree Hill" with only 2,26 million viewers who tuned to The CW at 9pm.

Hey Justin, you don't know how pissed off I am at ABC for screwing things up for Lost, my favorite show, these comedies are totally bombing worse than Daybreak, and it is definitely going to negatively impact the ratings of Lost when it comes back. Never screw around with a hit's timeslot even though it takes it away from AI, fans will be pissed!
