"24" Returns Solid, "Housewives" Down, "Apprentice" Dead
2007 has not begun very well for "Desperate Housewives". After eclipsing all scripted dramas to earn top honors so far this season, the show slipped last night to alarmingly low numbers. The dramedy scored 17,5 million viewers.
Before you get all worried, "Housewives" did manage to win its the timeslot as well as the entire Sunday night (well, apart from the NFL Overrun on CBS that scored well over 33 million viewers earlier in the evening).
Its numbers may have been affected by FOX's 2-hour season premiere of "24". The thriller premiered to solid numbers scoring over 15 million viewers, which was however off from last year's premiere by about 20% in households and 18-49).
Perhaps it is time for NBC to tell Donald Trump that he is fired. After hitting the lowest numbers for a season premiere, the show sank to series-low 7,3 million viewers. Or as Rosie put it: "His show tanked".
Congratulations to ABC's highly addictive "Brothers & Sisters". Despite "Desperate Housewives" coming down, the drama managed to hold on to its loyal audience scoring almost 13 million viewers and record high lead-in retention numbers.

This week is the highest retention rate ever of almost 74% retention compared to what it usually does of 60-65%. This is the best news of all for B&S fans all around. :)
Hey Justin, You think Housewives could get cancelled at the end of the season if numbers stay this low??? I'm really worry about the ratings..... (I'm from Chile, so sorry if my english is not so good, by the way .... I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!! IS AWESOME!!!)
Yes KC, that really is the best news. It means that despite the fall of "Desperate Housewives", B&S still managed to get its regular audience. And that means it is no longer dependent on "Housewives" for a lead-in push.
Hi, Gonzalo! Thank you very much. :-) Oh, I wouldn't worry about "Desperate Housewives".
The show did win both the timeslot and the entire night. So that's still excellent.
The reason the ratings were down was the season premiere of 24 on FOX (that show will air on Mondays, so no worry about that in the future), plus there was a delay in CBS schedule because of football, so 60 minutes (which had high ratings last night) took away some of the audience at the beginning of the hour.
If the numbers stay this low, that is of course not a good sign, but these days anything that gets more than 10 million people is normally considered a hit, so 17,5 is still very good.
Unless the ratings continue to fall dramatically (I see no reason, the show is better than it was last season), there is no doubt we will get a fourth season.
