Dixie Carter On "Desperate Housweives" Up To April 1
Dixie Carter who plays Kyle MacLachlan's devious mother Gloria Hodge on ABC's "Desperate Housewives" has revealed to TV Guide her role has been expanded and her character will remain on the show until April 1.
In the interview, Dixie said her character Gloria is really obsessed with her son Orson. She really hates him, and yet she loves so much that she wishes to posses him. For this reason she only sees the women he dates as a tool to control him.
The actress said she would love to stay on the show for a very long time, but she is dreading her character will be very naughty in the weeks to come, and that means it will be necessary for her to leave.
What you may not necessarily know is that the drama's creator and showrunner Marc Cherry used to work as Dixie Carter's personal assistant and it had been his wish to bring her on the show from the beginning.
Cherry waited to develop a storyline/character that would match Dixie Carter's immense potential.
When Gloria was conceived, he finally contacted his former boss asking her whether she wouldn't mind playing a truly frightening character, a role that would also require her to de-glam and age.
The actress explains she accepted the role with great enthusiasm and was very happy to work on such an extraordinary and energizing production.
Dixie also revealed that the producers are very accommodating to their stars, in addition to relocating production to Marcia Cross' home this week, they were also very understanding and helpful when she herself had a family emergency before the holidays.
Dixie Carter returns as Gloria Hodge next Sunday, January 21 in the episode "Come Play Wiz Me".
