"Friday Night Lights" May Move To Sundays
TV Guide reports today that NBC's freshman drama "Friday Night Lights" which is struggling in its Tuesday night spot at 8pm may move to Sunday nights at 8pm come January, following conclusion of the NFL season.
The drama which failed to find mass audience faced ABC's juggernaut "Dancing with the Stars". Although ABC's reality competition has now concluded its current run and "Friday Night Lights" may perform slightly better in the coming weeks, it is almost certain the drama would then get completely pummeled by the arrival of an even bigger reality blockbuster, FOX's American Idol, set to premiere in January.
For this reason, NBC is looking for ways to salvage the just renewed football drama and they hope some of that audience that watches Sunday Night Football may actually stick around past January to watch the new series.
Another option is moving the show to Monday nights at 10 instead of the also troubled "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip". The show has already aired in that timeslot once with quite decent results, improving its Tuesday night figures by 30%, mainly due to a more compatible lead-in this season's breakout hit "Heroes" which has now surpassed "Ugly Betty" as the most popular new show.
