Betty's Newton & Urie in Monte Carlo

It's Mandy and Mark, bitches! "Ugly Betty's" duo of catty fashionistas Becki Newton and Michael Urie recently returned from Monte Carlo, where they promoted their award-winning ABC comedy at the television festival.

The scene-stealers will soon begin to work on season 3 of the comedy which has now moved production to New York City and may feature even more special appearances of fashion celebrities.

But will the more authentic look of Mode magazine help the show bounce back in the ratings? After premiering to about 13-15 million viewers in the fall of 2006, the comedy lost about a third of that audience by the spring 2008.

So what else is in store for season 3?

Although last fall's 'Wicked' episode may not have been one of the show's highs, Newton has explained her hilarious character may get to do more singing on the show.

After all, who can forget her hysterical performance for her former rock daddy Gene Simmons?

As for Urie, expect the return of David Blue who plays his chubby and lovable photographer boyfriend Cliff whom we haven't seen since last fall (prompting irrational suspicions of de-gaying of 'Ugly Betty').

Becki Newton & Michael Urie at GLAAD Awards

"Ugly Betty's" fabulous and hilarious duo of Becki Newton and Michael Urie (a.k.a. the 2 Reasons I Never Miss A Single Episode Of The Show) stepped out at the 19th annual Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Media Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday night.

The gay-friendly show which features Urie's flamboyant character Marc. St.James who is finally dating a man this season (although we don't get to see them together too often) and Rebecca Romijn's transgender editor Alexis Meade (although her role is about to get scaled back) won the show an award for outstanding comedy series.

StarPix: Michael Urie

The Learning Channel is promoting "Ugly Betty" star Michael Urie, who plays a flamboyant gay character on the ABC comedy, as an "eligible bachelor" ahead of the premiere of his new series "Miss America: Reality Check."

The actor, who made a dateless appearance at the grand opening of Jay-Z's 40/40 Club in Vegas on Sunday, will be mingling with beauty queens on the 4-week series, a part of efforts to rebrand the 86-year old pageant which takes place on January 26.

After spending the holidays with his parents in Virginia, Urie returned to Los Angeles to star in a play called "Dickie and Babe." He's trying to keep busy but admits to being "worried and scared" about the time it could take to settle the writers' strike.

"Ugly Betty's" Michael Urie & Becki Newton

SEPTEMBER 29, 2007: Now these are the people I am always happy to see on TV. "Ugly Betty's" dynamic duo of Becki Newton and Michael Urie play the scheming, conniving, bitchslapping, backstabbing, zinger-throwing, Betty-ridiculing and freakin' adorable couple of gossip-hungry fashionistas on the award-winning comedy. Wow. That's way to many adjectives. But how else do you put into words just how fabulous they are? Check out over 25 pics from their recent photoshoot after the jump.

"Ugly Betty" - Outstanding Comedy Series at GLAAD Media Awards

APRIL 15, 2007: ABC's brilliant comedy "Ugly Betty" won the Outstanding Comedy Series award at last night's GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles and the show's fabulous stars Rebecca Romijn, Becki Newton, Michael Urie as well as the 14-year old Marc Indelicato were there to enjoy the sweet taste of success with the rest of the cast.

The comedy which has captured the hearts of over 13 million people across America promotes a truly timeless message of being true to oneself and accepting others for who they really are, something gay audiences that adore the show do not always have the luxury of enjoying.

Created and executive produced by Silvio Horta, an openly gay man in Hollywood, the show can easily relate to gay audiences with its impressive cast and real life issues of its vibrant array of characters.

Rebecca Romijn plays Alexis Meade a transgender character who struggles to find acceptance within her own family.

Michael Urie is Marc, Vanessa Williams' gay assistant whose mother abandons him when she learns who he really is.

Becki Newton is Amanda, Marc's best girlfriend, a prima fashionista and a vulnerable young woman underneath her seemingly insensitive cover.

Finally, Marc Indelicato plays the tap-dancing showtune-loving and simply fabulous nephew Justin, who finds Mode Magazine his land of Oz.

Congratulations to the outstanding cast and creators of "Ugly Betty" for yet another in a long line of awards and acknowledgments.

"Ugly Betty" the New "Will & Grace"?

Let's see. The show is a comedy. It airs on Thursday nights. It appeals to gay audiences. And it's crammed with celebrity guest stars (James Vanderbeek, Victor Garber, Marlo Thomas, Victoria Beckham and just announced Kirstie Alley). Oh, and there's a dynamic duo of a straight woman and a gay man who are so deliciously fabulous at being vicious to everyone. Sound like "Will & Grace," right?

Now, I'm not really sure where I'm getting with this post, since it was originally conceived to report the casting of Kirstie Alley (as originally announced by Liz Smith), but I guess that's boring. So why don't I just say: Hey, ABC? How about "The Marc and Amanda Show?" Bring it, baby, bring it! On second thought, look what happened to poor Joey Tribbiani. Maybe it's better to enjoy luxury in smaller doses. And I guess that concludes this weird post.

I love you Marc and Amanda!!!

Michael Urie: "I'm Married to Work"

Now that his character on "Ugly Betty" Marc St. James is getting a boyfriend played by David Blue, TV Guide is asking Texas-born actor Michael Urie about his own personal life. Find out what he said, after the jump.

"I'm single and I have lots of friends, but I'm sort of married to the work. But I'm moving into a bigger apartment, so there might be room for a significant other at some point. Right now I'm in a tiny studio."

Oh, boy! Do I get a chance? :)

You can read the rest of the interview in which Urie discusses his friendship with co-star Becki Newton, if he had been anything like Mark Indelicato's Justin Suarez when he was a boy, and what Shakespeare character would his Marc be, HERE.

"Ugly Betty" Star Urie's "Burning Desire"

"Ugly Betty" star Michael Urie who plays Vanessa Williams' adorable and hilarious gay assistant Marc on the hit ABC comedy, co-starred in a reading of Lou Diamond Phillips' Burning Desire last night at the Hayworth Theatre in Los Angeles.

Wendie Malick of NBC's classic sitcom "Just Shoot Me" directed a cast that also included playwright Phillips and Amy Smart.

A romantic comedy in two acts, "Burning Desire" is told through "the puppeteering antics of Lucifer, played by Phillips.

Two people who encounter what seems to be the love of their lives, are taken on a roller coaster ride of romance masterfully manipulated by the mystical matchmaker."

Lou Diamond Phillips received a Tony nomination for his role in the 1996 Broadway revival of The King and I.

Urie, who took on a heterosexual leading role, refuses to divulge any information on his sexual orientation or his love life.

Although a December 2006 issue of "dot glbt news magazine", reported that Urie is openly gay, the actor later told USA Today:

"It's not black and white; I'm still young, still figuring my life out; I love the mystery. I'm not going to lie, but I'm not going to talk about it."

"Ugly Betty" Stars to Dance at ABC Upfronts

They will dance and sing and to their "Ugly Betty" thing. Actors Michael Urie (Wilhelmina's mega-fab assistant Marc,) Becki Newton (Mode Magazine's super-hot receptionist Amanda) and Marl Indelicato (Betty's ultra-cute nephew Justin) will do a splashy song-and-dance number when ABC announces its fall schedule May 15, reports USA Today.

A devoted Shakespeare-phile, Michael Urie, whose hilarious gay character Marc gets to bitchslap his boss Wilhelmina on tonight's medieval-themed episode at her own request, is also rehearsing his role as Horatio in the South Coast Repertory's staging of Hamlet, opening June 1.

He is also looking forward to seeing New York production of Gypsy with gay icon Patti LuPone who, in a brilliant casting move, guest starred on "Ugly Betty" as Marc's homophobic mother. "Well, there goes my gay audience," said the actress at the time.

Urie also reveals to USA Today he is single, but prefers not to tell whom he dates. "I love the mystery. I'm not going to lie, but I'm not going to talk about it," he says.

No worries, Marc. We won't ask, if you don't tell.
