"Prison Break" Star Goes to Prison

AUGUST 2, 2007: Actor Lane Garrison who played Tweener on FOX's "Prison Break" will be going to prison for 90 days to undergo a "diagnostic" by parole officers and psychologists before returning for an Oct. 31 appearance before the judge to learn his ultimate sentence.

Garrison killed a teenage boy and injured 2 girls after he lost control of his car and crashed into a tree on December 2, 2006. Subsequent investigation revealed Garrison had alcohol and cocaine in his system. The teenagers recognized Garrison from "Prison Break" at a supermarket and invited him to their party.

Garrison recently appeared in a public service announcement that encourages viewers not to drink and drive. The chilling PSA re-enacts his crash and he appears to be holding back tears as he talks about what a stupid and life-changing mistake he made. Hopefully, the PSA will scare some kids into being careful on the road.

"Prison Break" Actor To Plead Guilty To Manslaughter

The arraignment of actor Lane Garrison was postponed in a Beverly Hills, Calif., court this morning after his attorney told the judge they were anticipating resolving the charges with a plea bargain.

What exactly is a plea bargain? It is an agreement in a criminal case in which a prosecutor and a defendant arrange to settle the case against the defendant.

The defendant agrees to plead guilty or no contest in exchange for some agreement from the prosecutor as to the punishment.

A plea bargain can also include the prosecutor agreeing to charge a lesser crime and dismissing some of the charges against the defendant.

Garrison, who has been charged with vehicular manslaughter showed up this morning with his lawyer, Harland Braun, at the Beverly Hills courthouse.

The lawyer said to the media Garrison will plead guilty on May 21 and added "There is no sentencing bargaining going on."

The judge will have complete discretion, which means Garrison faces a maximum of six years in prison.

Braun said he is waiting for engineers to come back with reports on whether there was a mechanical defect that contributed to the accident.

If so, that could affect the sentence.

"Prison Break" Star Lane Garrison To Be Charged With Manslaughter

ABC News has just reported that "Prison Break" star Lane Garrison, a Dallas native who was involved in a fatal car accident that killed a teenage boy in December will be charged today with three felony counts, including vehicular manslaughter.

Garrison, 26, is expected to be charged with felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated; driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; and providing alcohol to a minor, according to Jane Robinson, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney.

Garrison will reportedly surrender to authorities Thursday afternoon.

The actor who rose to fame for his appearance as Tweener on the FOX drama "Prison Break" struck a tree December 2, killing 17-year-old Beverly Hills High School student Vahaghn Setian and injuring two 15-year-old girls. Garrison himself suffered minor injuries.

Analysis of his blood sample taken following the crash confirmed a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent. According to those findings, the actor also had traces of cocaine in his system. If convicted, Garrison could face up to 10 years in prison.

On Tuesday, Garrison was photographed getting off a bus in Los Angeles - his driving license was revoked after the crash. The image below was taken in late January near his Los Angeles home.

Police Say Lane Garrison Had Alcohol, Cocaine In System

Beverly Hills police said yesterday that "Prison Break" star Lane Garrison ("Tweener") should be charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs for a car crash that killed a 17-year old passenger and injured two others.

Police Chief David L. Snowden said investigators have also asked county prosecutors to charge Garrison with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Investigators recommended that the DUI allegation carry the enhancement of having a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent or more. An adult driver in California is legally at the point of intoxication at 0.08 percent.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney, said that the police report was under review, but that no decision had been made on whether to file charges.

Garrison's Land Rover jumped a curb and struck a tree Dec. 2, killing 17-year-old Beverly Hills High School student Vahaghn Setian and injuring two 15-year-old girls also in the vehicle.

Garrison suffered minor injuries.

Garrison's attorney, Harland Braun, said the police decision to announce details of the investigation before charges have been filed was "a totally irresponsible thing."

"It was basically a public trial ... designed to influence potential jurors," Braun said.

Braun said he had not yet seen any of the evidence or police reports on the investigation.

Snowden said Garrison had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent.

After the crash, police said, the actor volunteered to submit a blood sample, and analysis of it found he also had cocaine in his system.

Police were waiting to hear from the district attorney's office before making an arrest.

If charged and convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter, Garrison, a Dallas native who played "Tweener" on the Fox drama, could face up to 10 years in prison.

Braun has said previously that Garrison met the youths at a grocery store and accompanied them to a party, where he had one drink.

He told the Los Angeles Times that Garrison didn't remember anything about the accident after waking up in a hospital.

Snowden alleged that Garrison gave alcohol to the teens more than once that evening.

"Prison Break" Actor Breaks Down In Tears

"Prison Break" star Lane Garrison who crashed his car last Saturday killing a 17-year old boy visited church on Wednesday morning before breaking down in tears. The police are investigating evidence to decide whether to bring charges against the actor.

A sidewalk memorial lies at the spot where 17-year-old Beverly Hills High school student Vahagn Setian died when Garrison crashed his SUV on December 2 in Beverly Hills.

The police say it could take up to 8 weeks to determine whether or not to file charges against the actor. The actor's lawyer denies Garrison was intoxicated with alcohol when he crashed his SUV.
