American Idol 7 - Auditions Begin Tuesday
It's that time of the year again! Time to indulge in almost-pornographic pleasures of watching a bunch of hopeless wannabes embarrass themselves and get verbally abused on national television. FOX will open the 7th cycle of TV's #1 blockbuster "American Idol" this Tuesday, January 15 at 8/7c with a special 2-hour opener. Check out these new stills of Idol stars Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest.
This year's competition will look similar to last year's - it all begins with 4 weeks of auditions. These shows will air on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8 and the first week both shows will be 2 hours long.
Then in the fifth week (February 12) we'll see who made it to the Hollywood round. The following day top-24 (12 girls and 12 boys) will be announced. Luckily, and unlike the early seasons, there will be only 2 Hollywood shows.
The following 3 weeks Idol will air 3 nights per week as the top 24 are gradually cut to the final 12 and we lose 4 candidates each week. As always, the boys sing on Tuesdays and the girls follow on Wednesdays.
Finally, on March 11 it all begins - the top 12 will sing live for the first time in a 2-hour show beginning at 8/7c. Live (hopefully half-hour) results show then move to Wednesdays at 9/8c.
Will this season produce a star like Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood or will it generate a soon-to-fade disappointment like Taylor Hicks or recently-dropped Katharine McPhee?
More importantly, will there be a Sanjaya-like embarrassment for blogs, tabloids and votefortheworst.com to salivate over?
