Writers' Strike Fallout: ABC Schedule Update
"Brothers & Sisters" has begun prepping episode #212; "Private Practice" is preempted on November 28 and more news on the ABC Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday night schedule.
In addition to yesterday's TV Guide report that Eric Winter is back on the set of ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" as part of a gay love triangle storyline for the upcoming episode #211, the good news is that ABC Studio has released sides for episode #212 which may in that case begin filming next week.
The show and its lead-in "Desperate Housewives" are preempted this Sunday because of the American Music Awards telecast, but will be back on November 25 with episode #208.
Last week I erroneously reported that when "Desperate Housewives" shut down production on Wednesday 11/7 only 9 episodes were in the can. As you may have heard, the cast and crew have completed 10 episodes, so there will be one more episode after the much-hyped 'twister' episode.
SUNDAYS
Sunday, November 18
AMERICAN MUSIC AWARDS
Sunday, November 25
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES ("A Distant Past," #408, Richard Chamberlain guest stars)
BROTHERS & SISTERS ("Something New", #208, Chevy Chase, Lyle Lovett and Steven Weber guest star)

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES ("Something's Coming," #409, twister episode)
BROTHERS & SISTERS ("Holy Matrimony!," #209, Kitty's wedding)
Sunday, December 9
ABC Premiere Event: Oprah Winfrey Presents
Both shows are then expected to go into reruns for the rest of December, which means 1 episode of "Desperate Housewives" and 2-3 episodes of "Brothers & Sisters" may air in early 2008.
WEDNESDAYS
As I reported on Monday, ABC Studio has begun prepping episode #112 of "Dirty Sexy Money." It is not clear if episodes 11 and 12 (and possibly 13 if it goes into production) will air, since they may not have a lead-in as both "Pushing Daisies" and "Private Practice" may have fewer episodes in the can.
"Pushing Daisies" is currently filming episode #109 with an alternative ending which may serve as the first season finale. "Private Practice" should also finish episode #109, but according to TV Guide may add 1-2 more episodes. The schedule for the next few weeks looks as follows:
Tonight:
PUSHING DAISIES ("Bitches," #106)
PRIVATE PRACTICE ("In Which Sam Gets Taken For a Ride," #107)
DIRTY SEXY MONEY ("The Wedding," #107)
Wednesday, November 21
PUSHING DAISIES ("Smell of Success," #107, Paul Reubens guest stars)
PRIVATE PRACTICE ("In Which Cooper Finds a Port in His Storm," #108)
DIRTY SEXY MONEY ("The Country House," #108, Thanksgiving)
Wednesday, November 28
SHREK THE HALLS
DR SEUSS' HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS
PUSHING DAISIES (Special Time 9 p.m., "Bitter Sweets," #108 Molly Shannon guest stars)
DIRTY SEXY MONEY ("The Watch," #109, Peter Strauss guest stars)
Wednesday, December 5
ABC has yet to announce the schedule for this date, but they are expected to air the finale of "Pushing Daisies" (#109), episode "In Which Dell Finds His Fight" of "Private Practice" (#109) and the Christmas episode of "Dirty Sexy Money" titled "The Nutcracker" (#110).
1-3 episodes of "Private Practice" and "Dirty Sexy Money" may still remain for early 2008.
THURSDAYS
Despite reports to the contrary production on the final two scripts of "Big Shots" is going ahead (#110 and #111). Episodes #112 and #113 reportedly haven't been written.
"Ugly Betty" is also continuing production. 13 scripts have been written and it is possible all will be produced, but the writers won't be available for last-minute rewrites for the final 3, so they may be inferior in quality.
"Grey's Anatomy" is expected to finish filming all of 11 episodes that have been written.
Tomorrow:
UGLY BETTY ("I See Me, I.C.U." #208, Mo'Nique guest stars)
GREY'S ANATOMY ("Forever Young" #408, Jeff Perry returns as Thatcher Grey)
WOMEN'S MURDER CLUB (Special day and time)
November 22:
UGLY BETTY ("Giving Up the Ghost," #209, Christmas episode)
GREY'S ANATOMY ("Crash Into Me - Part 1," #409, Seth Green guest stars)
OCTOBER ROAD (2nd Season Premiere, Special Day and Time)
November 29:
ABC will rerun season premieres of "UGLY BETTY" and "GREY'S ANATOMY" and air a new episode of "BIG SHOTS."
December 6:
UGLY BETTY ("Bananas for Betty," #210, Betty White guest stars)
GREY'S ANATOMY ("Crash into Me - part 2," #410)
BARBARA WALTERS SPECIAL
The line up would then go into repeats, 3 episodes of "Ugly Betty" and "Big Shots" and 1 episode of "Grey's Anatomy" would still remain in the can for 2008.

Nice to see that production is continuing on Dirty Sexy Money, as that is one of my favorite new shows. Hope they can get another episode or 2 of Private Practice in the can.
The sides released for episode 12 of Brothers and Sisters were a bit strange in that they didn't make sense given the current situation with the characters involved. If the name of one of the characters was switched it would make perfect sense but I don't know how these things work. Have the sides ever had the names be changeable?
I hope Private Practice survives. I love Grey's Anatomy but Private Practice is in a close second. I hope these people get it together and things will be different in 2008.
I join. All above told the truth.
