"Dirty Sexy Money" Continues Production
Being a huge fan of ABC's deluxe soap "Dirty Sexy Money," I've been waiting to hear this news. No, the show hasn't received a back-9 order, but ABC studio appears to be going ahead with production of episode #12 inching closer to filming all 13 episodes from the original order.
When the writers' strike began in Hollywood last week, LA Times reported that 11 to 13 episodes of "Dirty Sexy Money" would be filmed. The writers had finished all 13 scripts from the original order. ABC even ordered additional 3 scripts prior to the strike, but there wasn't sufficient time to finish any of them.
On Wednesday, Chicago Tribune reported that the show creator Craig Wright was pessimistic about the show future and believed it would finish after 10 episodes.
By Friday, both Michael Ausiello of TV Guide and Kristin of E! Online said only 11 episodes of the show would be produced. The cast and crew, in the meantime, began filming episode #11 on Thursday; the episode titled "The Fantini Brothers" is expected to be done by the end of this week.
Today however, ABC Studio has begun prepping episode #12, sides have been released to casting agencies and filming is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 21. The episode "The Silent Auction" may in that case be completed by the end of the month.
It is not clear if any of the show producers (Craig Wright, Greg Berlanti, etc.) are involved with the production at this point. They officially joined the writers' strike last week and Berlanti was seen on the picket lines.
If ABC Studio does film all 13 episodes that had been initially ordered that could keep "Dirty Sexy Money" on air and all-new through the end of January.
Both "Pushing Daisies" and "Private Practice" should however run out of fresh episodes by Christmas, so if ABC does air the most recent episodes of "Money" it is not clear what would lead into them.
New shows and especially prime-time soaps like "Dirty Sexy Money" need to build momentum and keeping them off air for a long time could be fatal.
There is however a silver lining in the writers' strike - the networks are, for the time being, expected to steer clear from the cancellation button as even shows with tepid ratings can mostly generate higher numbers than reruns.
And if the strike continues and fresh content keeps running out, beggars won't be able to be choosers.
Upcoming episodes of "DIRTY SEXY MONEY":
#107 "The Wedding" (Karen's wedding, airs this Wednesday)
#108 "The Country house" (Thanksgiving, airs November 21)
#109 "The Watch" (Dutch George's flashbacks, November 28)
#110 "The Nutcracker" (Christmas, expected airdate December 5)
#111 "The Fantini Brothers" (currently filming)
#112 "The Silent Auction" (filming should begin November 21)
#113 To Be Announced (To Be Announced)
Labels: ABC, Dirty Sexy Money

Love this show, and I hope they get to film the Silent Auction ep ... having planned a zillion silent auctions for galas I can't wait to see what ridiculous spin the Darlings would put on this fairly ridiculous endeavor!
Great news...Hope we'll get to see the 13. episode...Just love this show...
