"Pushing Daisies" Premiere Ratings (10/3/07)
How well did "Pushing Daisies" do last night on ABC and did last week's premieres "Bionic Woman," "Private Practice," "Life" and "Dirty Sexy Money" lose viewers, remain stable or even go up in week #2? Answers, after the jump.
Critical darling "Pushing Daisies" launched on a winning note coming in first in the timeslot with 12.83 million viewers. The show managed to beat NBC's hit game show "Deal or No Deal" (11.07 million).
FOX's "Back to You" however continued its decline. The show considered by many in the TV business to be the test if the traditional "multi-camera" comedy is still alive is not doing too well having lost almost one third of its viewers since the premiere (now 6.58 million).
The 9 p.m. battle between "The Bionic Woman" (NBC) and "Private Practice" (ABC) ended with losses for both shows. "Woman" however fell from 13.91 to 10.94 million, while "Practice" posted a much smaller loss, from 14.41 to 12.29 million. PP was also the #1 in the important 18-49 demo. That makes the show a winner.
10 p.m. shows "Life" (NBC) and "Dirty Sexy Money" (ABC) also lost some ground, but - and I am personally very happy about this - "Money" did better. "Life" fell from almost 10 million viewers to 8.80 million, while "Money" fell from 10.44 to 9.76 million, coming in second in the timeslot.
Despite a small loss in overall viewers "Dirty Sexy Money" however posted identical ratings in the crucial 18-49 demo. Although hardly a blockbuster, if the ratings remain stable, "Money" should be a keeper. That means ABC's entire all-new Wednesday night line-up is, for the time being, successful.
Finally, over on The CW, there was a slight improvement for "Gossip Girl," but the show still failed to do well pulling in only 2.80 million viewers. On the other hand, the competition in the 9 p.m. timeslot is very strong with this season's top-2 freshman hits airing on ABC and NBC.

Are you going to post ratings weekly? I don't know if that's too much to ask or not, but I love seeing the ratings of shows and I don't know where else to go. You wouldn't have to write anything, just post them? I'm curious to see how some of my other favorite new shows are doing, but I don't know where to look. Just a suggestion, thanks for all the great stuff you post!
Did you mean 'weekly ratings'? I guess I could come up with something. Thanks!
Yes, PD did decent in the ratings. :D
Hey Justin, I'm glad Pushing Daisies did relatively well, we'll see if it holds up. It is a clever beautifully shot show, I have some reservations regarding the concept of the touch bringing back the dead and how much storyline they can get out of this. But it definitely is very original and the cinematography is quite spectacular. Reminds me of a Tim Burton movie. Did you like it?
I liked it, although I did notice very minor edits from the version I saw online.
All the reviews I have read from viewers seems to be postiive. I wouldn't be surprised if watercooler word spreads causing an increase for the show next week. Considering that new shows seem to be doing around 11-12 mil on average, I guess PD didn't do bad at all. If it can hold at least most of that audience, I think we may be lucky enough to at least get a full season out of it, possibly even more if the ratings hold or increase.
Pushing Daisies was not exactly what I expected but it was ok. I will watch next week and hopefully see what the hype is about. But I am crushing hard on the lead character.lmao Also, I love Private practice. This past episode I almost came to tears when the mother's had to switch kids. I love the fact that everyone is already established and there are no "interns." but yet these doctors still need to find themselves. I liek the whole dynamic of the show and who doesn't like the girl from Judging Amy.
hey justin. why dont u do daily ratings for everyday except friday and saturday. is that too hard?? i love ur blog. thanks.
I think Wednesday Nights on ABC are fantastic. Although, like I said, it seems to me that they took all of the good new shows and put them all in one night. Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket.
Roland: I also got to preview 'Pushing Daisies' during the summer and I thought it was a marvelous show.
I am curious to see though how the writers keep the concept fresh for an entire season.
Anonymous: Thanks. Fridays and Saturdays are quite boring days as far as TV is concerned. At least I think they are in the US. I don't know where you are from.
But, I will most definitely report Friday's ratings as of this week now that my beloved 'Friday Night Lights' is coming back. But, Saturdays are almost dead.
I don't think I'm gonna watch PD next week but I found Private Practice better than the last week...Love the show...
Here is a good place to get ratings:

or tvguide.com and click on todays news my take.
I'm sticking with the entire Wednesday night lineup.(Shame, I wanted to go to bed early for once but now I gotta stay up to see DSM, it's just not fair.)
Saturday's USED to be awesome. Walker Texas Ranger, Touched by an Angel, Martial Law, Early Edition. Ah, those were the days.
Yes, I meant "weekly ratings" -- or even daily ratings? I'd love to see those posted, if possible. :) If not, I understand also.
I'm not sure about the daily ratings (I'll think about it,though), but weekly - for sure. Thanks for the suggestions.
