Michael Cassidy Joins "Smallville"
Former "The O.C." hunk Michael Cassidy who starred in The CW's just-concluded low-rated summer soap "Hidden Palms" has joined the cast of "Smallville" as Editor-in-Chief of The Daily Planet, reports TV Guide.
The casting choice is, on one hand, somewhat ridiculous. The producers were originally looking for a thirtysomething actor to play the part. Cassidy is only 24 years old and just a couple of seasons ago he played a love-stricken puppy-eyed teenager romancing Rachel Bilson on FOX's "The O.C."
But does anyone really care? The actor is adorable and frankly - when it comes to The CW's young Superman drama known for casting the most attractive young men in the industry - that really is all that matters. Besides, hunkage can never hurt the cartoonish nature of the show.
Cassidy's character replaces Carrie Fisher and her barely visible Pauline Kahn. He will appear in at least 6 episodes next season and is expected to romance Erica Durance's Lois Lane. In real life, Portland-born Cassidy married girlfriend Laura Eichhorn last August.
