New ABC Shows: "Dirty Sexy Money"
MAY 17, 2007: A campy drama about a filthy rich family to air on Wednesday nights on ABC? Rejoice! "Dynasty" is back. They just call it "Dirty Sexy Money" now.
"Brothers & Sisters" boss Greg Berlanti who also produces ABC's midseason drama "Eli Stone" is the man behind this pilot about a Hilton-esque Darling clan in New York City and their dubious affairs.
Following a suspicious plane crash in which his father is killed, a stressed out but idealistic lawyer Nick George (Peter Krause) is offered his father's job as the personal lawyer of the Darling family.
All his life, Nick has lived in the shadow of the absurdly wealthy family, but now as $10 million is put on table, he believes he will have the freedom to be an altruistic do-gooder.
That is, however, only part of the picture. "Dirty Sexy Money" pulls him into obscure doings. Soon Nick realizes that power, privilege and family money are a volatile cocktail.
Speaking about the pilot, which is also executive produced by Bryan Singer, Greg Berlanti said in an interview with AfterElton.com:
"There's a character of a senator in Dirty Sexy Money [William Baldwin] who's in love with a transvestite. So that's definitely got an interesting character. And I do think if one were to look at the TV landscape now that transgender characters are sort of where gay characters were 20 or 30 years ago. So I do think that's an area that 'Dirty Sexy Money' will explore."
The pilot which was entirely filmed in New York City in March also features a guest appearance by former CBS newsman Dan Rather in a special cameo.
Peter Krause, who played Nate Fisher on HBO's 'Six Feet Under' - an undertaker whose father dies in the pilot - said in an interview with TV Guide:
"Strangely the show begins with the death of my father. That's part of the reason I said no to the project at first. I thought it was a little too familiar, but I eventually came around. [Nick] has got more of an agenda, whether it's visible at first or not. The show harkens back to 'Dallas,' 'Dynasty,' 'Knots Landing,' and, of course, it has a new twist."
"Dirty Sexy Money" stars Donald Sutherland as Tripp Darling, Glenn Fitzgerald as Brian Darling, Jill Clayburgh as Letitia Darling, Laz Alonso as Colin Davidson, Natalie Zea as Karen Darling, Peter Krause as Nick George, Samaire Armstrong as Juliet Darling, Seth Gabel as Jeremy Darling, William Baldwin as Patrick Darling and Zoe McLellan as Lisa George.
