Rex Van De Kamp Returns To "Desperate Housewives"

Executive producer of ABC's smash hit drama "Desperate Housewives" is considering bringing the character of Rex Van De Kamp (Steven Culp) back for a very special episode later this season revolving around the men of Wisteria Lane.

According to TV Guide the episode would be told from a male perspective and for this reason, instead of Brenda Strong narrating the episode as the deceased neighbor Mary Alice, Steven Culp, whose character Rex Van De Kamp was killed off in the first season finale, would take over the voiceover duties.

According to the magazine Marc Cherry has already contacted the actor on the set of his new ABC series "Traveler". According to Culp the final decision has not been made as yet, but he hopes they would go along with the plan.

Brenda Strong said she would be happy to give Steven Culp any advice he might need and will be very curious to see the episode. If the network goes along with the idea, it is believed the episode might air as part of May sweeps.

Steven Culp should have narrated back in season 2. It would have made much more sense that Rex would look over Bree and the neighbors now that he was dead. It would have made season 2 much more interesting from a male perspective on the wives.

I heard that was originally one of the ideas for season 2, but for some reason Marc Cherry nixed it.

I totally agree. That would have kept "Housewives" fresh and intriguing in the second year.

And we got the Applewhites instead. :)

The Applewhites was only introduced to appease the NAACP or whomever was arguing that there needs more diversity on Desperate Housewives. But their story was so weak, it was a snooze fest watching them.

I would have loved to hear what Rex had to say about the pharmicist and Bree's other love interest and finally Orson, but oh well...live and let learn...at least in the future we'll get to hear what he does have to say about the whole ordeal. :)

Mary Alice's voiceover in season 2 got to such a point that she even stopped referring to Paul and Zach as her husband and son. Or at least she did so very infrequently. Nevertheless, I still loved many season 2 moments, especially those involving Bree.
