Luke & Noah Finally Kiss

Well it was about damn time! Earlier this week the annoying Ameera storyline in the ongoing gay teen saga of Luke and Noah on CBS' "As the World Turns" (kill her off already!) took a surprisingly juicy turn when the two studs locked lips ending an 8-month smooch-drought and fan protests.


Although a part of me cheered seeing the loving couple finally make out again, another part of me stood in awe how utterly ridiculous the idea, that we had to wait for 8 months in the first place and then be exceptionally happy and grateful for the 5-second kiss, is.



Now what? Another 8 month wait? That would schedule the next kiss just before Christmas, so at least we would finally get to see what happened under that mistletoe that an ATWT cameraman loved so much last year. Oh well, it's still a step in the right direction.



An idiot on YouTube already managed to flag the video as "unsuitable for minors." Since similar stupidity occurred with the previous kiss which was posted on August 17, so I do hope YouTube will once again do the right thing and remove the offensive flag.



In the meantime, you can check out German soap boys Christian and Oliver on ARD's "Forbidden Love" who have been swapping spit all over the place. I wonder how many decades it will take US daytime to catch up. The clips are now available with English subtitles.

Cyndi Lauper Sings for Luke & Noah

Pop legend Cyndi Lauper made a very special appearance on today's edition of CBS' "As the World Turns" promoting her new album and singing one of her greatest classics for daytime soap's iconic gay couple Luke and Noah.

Lauper, whose older sister Ellen is gay, has been a long-time supporter of gay rights and an icon in the gay community.


The singer dedicated her signature pop ballad "True Colors" to a sad Luke who is still coming to terms over his recent break-up with Noah.

But will she help reunite the boys? We all know they'll end up together, the only question is - what year?

Kudos to Lauper for sending out a positive message while giving her new project some additional exposure in the media.



And the same goes for Procter & Gamble who own the show for securing Lauper's appearance and proving their dedication to the 'power-couple'.

Luke and Noah's portrayal has often been a little far-fetched (Army? Really? Hasn't Noah seen '60 Minutes'?), but their continuing presence in the TV landscape remains crucial.

If I got this right, following all the commotion with Noah's marriage to illegal alien Ameera and the return of his homophobic dad, daytime's resident gay teen couple hit Breakupville.

Now a local player named Reg, who had at one point proposed a little hot tub fourway with his BF and Nuke, is drooling over the suddenly available Luke.

Reg may be a bit of a hottie himself, but all I can say is - run, Luke, run!!! Get back to that gorgeous a-hole of your boyfriend, because - despite all his flaws - you guys are so damn cute together.

Van Hansis to Appear @ AIDS Fundraiser

Actor Van Hansis who plays the iconic gay teen character Luke Snyder on CBS' daytime soap "As the World Turns" will join Christopher Meloni of NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" fame, openly HIV+ contestant Jack Mackenroth from Bravo's "Project Runway" and a number of other ABC and CBS daytime celebrities at POZ Magazine's third annual fund-raiser for AIDS Walk New York, Love Out Loud in Manhattan.

The event takes place at Prohibition, 503 Columbus Ave. (@ 84th) in Manhattan, Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 5:45 to 9:00 PM, there will be a $25.00 donation at the door. For more on the event and who else will be attending check out the official Love Out Loud website.

AFA Loonies Attack Nuke, Procter & Gamble

I was wondering when those despicable homophobes from the American Family Association would attack CBS Daytime, the producers of "As the World Turns" and the show's sponsor Procter & Gamble over their portrayal of the love story between two gay teens. Sure enough, the moment Luke and Noah locked lips on April 23, the abominable hatemongers, who make a living out of sticking their noses into other people's business, reared their bigot heads again.


This time, the wingnuts are asking their supporters to contact P&G and ask that the loving couple be removed from the show entirely.

As always, instead of simply adhering to the doctrines of their faith in their own lives, these organized bigots feel the need to make choices for other people.



AFA have a history of organizing product boycotts to pressure companies to pull their advertising money out of shows that "promote the homosexual agenda."

Last year, the bigots targeted Ford for giving their gay employees domestic partnership benefits asking their followers to stop buying Ford cars and then kept salivating over every piece of news about Ford's financial setbacks.

Unfortunately for AFA, Ford's troubles were tied to overall problems in the US economy, not the ridiculous campaign. Furthermore, in early 2008 Ford finally made profit due to strong international sales.

It began with an article in The Boston Globe, and now it's all over the media, including AP, CNN and more. The Luke and Noah kiss controversy is picking up momentum. Meanwhile, "As the World Turns" stars Austin Peck and Terri Colombino, who have shared many steamy straight scenes, confirm fan suspicions.

In an interview with Out magazine, Peck and Colombino said the producers did get "scared off" about telling the romantic story between the two young men. Furthermore, Colombino goes on to say her character won't suffer the same fate as Luke and Noah because "[she] has a vagina."

Monday night on CNN's Showbiz Today, a gay PR specialist and a conservative radio wingnut squared off on the issue of censorship of the relationship between Luke and Noah with tedious expressions like "lifestyle" and "agenda" being heavily thrown around.

CBS, Procter & Gamble Committed to "Nuke"

L.A.Times reports Procter & Gamble is "very committed" to continuing the gay teen storyline on CBS' "As the World Turns" which has been unfolding deliberately slow to keep interest alive. Meanwhile, CBS says the show's ratings have gone up since the couple had been paired off last summer.

Fans of the daytime soap storyline have recently voiced a lot of concerns regarding the couple's practice of holding hands, playing with each other's scarves and sharing meaningful looks, anything but kissing. CBS however insists it has not censored the story line or asked producers to hold back in any way.

Last week, the storyline took a new turn with the introduction of a new character, a young Iraqi girl named Amira, who may or may not be the illegitimate daughter of Noah's father. In any event, the couple was once again prominently featured all week long and even got to share another tender moment.

In a separate development, actress Martha Byrne who has played the role of Luke's mother Lilly since 1985 with a break between 1989 and 1993 when she was replaced by a different actress, is leaving the soap. It is not yet clear whether her character would be recast, leave the show or get killed off.

Luke Snyder and Noah Mayer, recently branded one of TV's power couples by TV Guide and a super-couple by Entertainment Weekly, were back on CBS' "As the World Turns" on Monday.

On one hand, I am very grateful to the writers they have given us an iconic gay teen couple that does not necessarily feel the need to indulge in drunken and drugs-induced orgies to explore their sexuality.

On the other hand, isn't the chastity game spiced up with occasional kisses on cheeks getting a little contrived? I know it's Procterandgableville, but I am starting to feel I'm watching a 1950s sitcom.

Oh, well. Great to see the guys back anyway. Who knows, maybe these secretaries and assistants who are rumored to have taken over the writing duties on daytime soaps, are building up to a passionate love scene?

After all that "First Same-Sex Kiss in the History of US Daytime" brouhaha last summer, you'd think the producers of CBS's Procter and Gamble-sponsored soap "As the World Turns" would give their iconic gay teen characters Luke and Noah another make-out session. Fat chance. Instead, Luke and Noah may now have officially become TV's Most Interrupted Couple.

Here is now a video compiled by the same YouTube user who is kind enough to update the Luke and Noah storyline on the popular video website as soon as new developments become available.

You may have already noticed someone always gets in the way whenever the couple try to share an intimate moment. However, after seeing this video, I see whoever is behind the interference has really gone out of control.

If you're also irritated by the handling of the characters you may now join an online petition or write directly to Procter and Gamble asking that Luke and Noah be treated in the same manner as any other love story involving any other teen characters.

MARCH 19, 2007: Young soap actor Van Hansis was nominated for Daytime Emmy Award last week for his buzzworthy portrayal of gay teenager Luke Snyder on "As The World Turns" in a storyline that made homophobic soap fans across the country hysterically cry they would stop watching the drama.

The young actor who has said in an earlier interview to "After Elton" he loved his character and was happy he came out of the closet, has a BFA in Acting from Carnegie Mellon University's School of Drama.

VIDEO: Luke & Noah's Gay Mistletoe Kiss Cut?

The tender love story of Luke and Noah on CBS' "As the World Turns" continues to delight me. Unfortunately, I am beginning to wonder if that sad bunch of homophobic losers who keep writing to the network and the show sponsor Procter & Gamble (now you know why they call them soap operas) to complain about having gay characters on the daytime drama actually had an impact on the way the storyline is being treated.

Following a headline-grabbing summer when Luke and Noah made television history with the first ever daytime gay male kiss in America, the gay characters have been reduced to appearing once per week or even more seldom.

Furthermore, yesterday's tender moment under the mistletoe was interrupted by the camera panning into the mistletoe and then the entire moment being ruined by Luke's father. Earlier, Luke's sister interrupted yet another kiss.

Perhaps if the producers continue in this direction, pretty soon we'll get back to those embarrassingly lame gay moments from the 1980s ("Dynasty's" Steven comes to mind) when gay men would only hug on TV.

Britain is a long way ahead of the US - the nation's first soap opera gay kiss was televised in 1989 on the popular drama "EastEnders." The show "Brookside" followed suit with the first lesbian kiss in 1993.
