TV Ratings: Wednesday (1/16/08)
Last night 7 hours of prime-time television belonged to reality and the remaining 6 the networks aired scripted drama. "American Idol" of course came out on top, but the show was 18% down from the same night last year. Has the phenomenon finally peaked?
FOX's "Idol" scored 30.28 million viewers down from 36.94 million on Wednesday, 1/17/07. Despite the decline the singing competition is still the biggest show on television as the #2 program in America, ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" has averaged 21.67 million viewers season-to-date.
"Cashmere Mafia" continues to bleed hitting a new low of 5.39 million viewers. In all fairness, the dramedy didn't have much of a lead-in as both "Wife Swap" and "Supernanny" got crushed by "American Idol." Only NBC's "Deal Or No Deal" continues to do well despite airing against "Idol."
CBS' mini-series ended its 3-night run with a solid 12.06 million viewers. The event did however skew old - despite scoring more than double total viewers, "Comanche Moon" did only a little better than ABC's "Cashmere Mafia" among adults 18-49, the demo that counts the most (2.4 vs. 2.2).
