"Desperate Housewives" Recap #4.01 "Now You Know"
The 4th season begins with a satisfying resolution to last May's cliffhanger and after a new 5-second opening bumper goes on to introduce a new family that brings a whole bunch of new secrets to Wisteria Lane. Lynette reveals her secret, but luckily - there's plenty more to uncover in the season premiere episode penned by series creator Marc Cherry.
I never bought Edie as a woman who would be capable of committing suicide. No matter how desperate she got, she simply loved herself too much. And I was happy to learn I wasn't wrong.
Edie tries to fake her suicide attempt, but the grumpy Mrs. McClusky almost ruins her deadly game. Carlos however manages to save her and is forced to put off his plan to run away with Gaby (the actress is now credited as Eva Longoria Parker).
A month later, Susan is worried Mike isn't happy in their marriage and believes a child would change that. But, a doctor's appointment brings more stress and she is in error led to believe she has reached her menopause. In the end, there is nothing but bliss for the newlyweds as they learn they will have a baby together.
Meanwhile, a new family moves onto Wisteria Lane and the ladies arrive to greet the new neighbors.
During her very first visit to the Mayfair house Bree gets a glimpse of her new archenemy who wishes that she cut down her tree as it is blocking the sun necessary for her "prize-winning vegetables." I have a feeling everything about the super-polished Katherine will be prize-winning and I am loving it already.
Lynette battles the side-effects of her chemotherapy and goes to great lengths to keep her condition a secret to the discontent of her hilarious mother (the wonderful Polly Bergen). Following an argument with an irritating soccer mom who insists that Lynette keep her responsibilities, Lynette comes clean.
Her friends are shocked, but they are there to support her. They make a pact never to keep any secrets from one another.
But Bree continues to literally keep hers under wraps and gets into hilarious situations pretending to be pregnant. Despite all that trouble her loving husband Orson continues to stand by her after he realizes she sees Danielle's child as a 2nd chance to become a good parent and raise a "proper child" (presumably seeing Danielle and Andrew as failures). Oh, Bree. You will never learn.
Edie returns from the hospital. Gaby is very unhappy with Carlos' devotion to her sultry neighbor. Although it seems at one point she tries to channel that anger by patching things up with Victor, Gaby is indeed back with Carlos. The only problem is - it's a secret and no one can know.
Finally, Julie is perplexed by her former best friend, Katherine's daughter, Dillon. She doesn't seem to remember anything or anyone from Wisteria Lane apart from a creepy man in her nightmares.
Pretty soon we learn there is a room in the Mayfair house where something sinister had happened 12 years ago. Although Katherine may not be entirely happy to be back in Fairview, it appears she didn't have a choice because of something her husband Adam had done in Chicago.
Although the new mystery with the new family and a room filled with secrets may be somewhat reminiscent of the Applewhite fiasco two seasons ago, the new, very likable characters already have a history in Fairview giving the Housewives a chance to get involved. It's good to be back on Wisteria Lane!

Hey Justin... Do you make your own screenshots? I have been wondering about that.
Btw, did you notice that Eva Longoria is now "Eva Longoria Parker"? That was her official name in the credits of the show now. Interesting...
Terrific season opener.
Yes, I do. I try to choose moments that I liked the most.
