Hot Casting News: Efron, Kidman, Spacey
Those kids who go berserk when they hear Zac Efron's name may not even know what "Footloose" is, but that won't stop Hollywood from remaking the 1984 movie with the "Hairspray" heartthrob in the starring role. Also, Kevin Spacey signs up for more Luthor-style shenanigans and Nicole Kidman heads to Monte Carlo.
"High School Musical" star Zac Efron will reunite with director Kenny Ortega and play Ren McCormack, the rebellious newcomer (originally played by Kevin Bacon) in a town where dancing has been banned, as Paramount unveils a full-blown musical remake of "Footloose." Efron's feature debut "Hairspray" is released this Friday.
Director Bryan Singer meanwhile met with actor Kevin Spacey in New York to secure his participation in "Superman: Man of Steel," a sequel to his 2006 movie which The WB decided to go ahead with despite the movie's disappointing box office results. The film will be released in 2009.
Finally, Hollywood star Nicole Kidman will produce and star in the romantic comedy "Monte Carlo" which is based on the novel "Headhunters" by Jules Bass and has nothing to do with the 1985 Joan Collins mini-series. She will play one of three Midwestern schoolteachers who ditch their boring Paris vacation to pose as wealthy women in Monaco.
