Dana Delany & Nathan Fillion to Get "Desperate"?

Genius. Pure genius. "Pasadena" lovers Dana Delany and Nathan Fillion may join ABC's "Desperate Housewives" as the new couple stirring trouble on Wisteria Lane. Meanwhile, Lyndsy Fonseca ("Heroes") may play Delany's vixen daughter.

"China Beach" vet Delany, whom you can see on Sunday nights at midnight as NBC burns off the unaired episodes of its failed freshman drama "Kidnapped" (the show is already available on DVD), played the neurotic matriarch Catherine McAllister on FOX's twisted 2001 soap who seduces a young priest (played by Fillion). And who can forget that fun scene when she trashed her mansion?

Delany also guest starred on a number of notable TV dramas such as "Boston Legal," "The L Word" and "Battlestar Galactica." "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry who publicly acknowledged being at first unhappy with the casting of Marcia Cross as Bree Van De Kamp - since he originally pursued Delany to play the part - may finally have his way if the veteran actress joins the show.



Last month I told you about the role in question in the spoiler post "Bree Gets a Rival" as the producers were looking for a new housewife to give Bree a run for her money.

"Katherine" is now described by TV Guide as "a conservative Republican with an all-American wholesomeness and a mastery of passive aggressiveness." She is a former neighbor who returns to Wisteria Lane after 10 years of absence with a younger husband, the best looking gynecologist in town and a 17-year old trouble-making daughter.

I am of course absolutely in love with Dana Delany and her work and I think she and the Canadian-born drop-dead-gorgeous Nathan Fillion ("Firefly" vet whom we have just seen as one of the regulars on FOX's short lived drama "Drive" as well as Evangeline Lilly's husband in a "LOST" flashback last November) will make a great Wisteria Lane couple.

Of course, as we have seen with the Applewhites, it won't work unless the writing is top-notch. Fingers firmly crossed!
