VIDEO: Will Katherine Heigl's "Knocked Up" Break the "TV Stars on Big Screen" Curse? (UPDATED)
Earlier this year several big screen movies with major TV stars in principal roles such as Matthew Fox's "We are Marshall" and Felicity Huffman's "Georgia Rule" have failed at the box office. Will "Grey's Anatomy" star Katherine Heigl break that curse with her new movie "Knocked Up"?
Helmer Judd Apatow reteams with "40-Year-Old Virgin" co-star Seth Rogen, for this R-rated comedy which follows a twentysomethings couple (Rogen, Katherine Heigl) whose drunken one night stand results in a pregnancy.
The movie has opened in 2,873 thaters, 34% fewer than "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" last weekend.
With positive initial buzz and production budget of only $30 million, "Knocked Up" has a good chance to be profitable as it is expected to generate over $20 million in its opening weekend, ("Virgin" opened to $21.4 million in 2005 but ultimately hit $109 million.)
UPDATE (Saturday, June 2, 11:59 PDT) According to initial Box Office results for Friday, June 1 - "Knocked Up" has earned almost $10 million dollars in its first day of release, which means it is on the right track to exceed the expectations and earn well over #20 million during the opening weekend.
Here is actor Seth Rogen's ("Freaks and Geaks") interview with Harry Smith on CBS' "Early Show" on Thursday morning along with that hilarious "Brokeback Mountain" deleted scene.
