VIDEO: "Lipstick Jungle" Battles "Cashmere Mafia" (NEW Trailers)
Former "Sex and the City" producers Darren Star and Candace Bushnell (the HBO comedy was set upon Bushnell's book, Star developed it into a TV series) are about to battle it out in the prime-time arena as their separate "Sex"-themed projects go head-to-head (albeit on different nights).
Will Lucy Liu beat Brooke Shields? Both NBC's "Lipstick Jungle" and ABC's "Cashmere Mafia" appear incredibly similar, so casualties are imminent. The question is, will one of these shows survive or will they both fail? Surely they can;t both succeed, can they? Take a sneak peek.

I'm curious as to why so many SATC ripoffs next season, then you have the one with the guys, Big Shots. I think where these shows have a big drawback is that they can't get away with the racy material SATC had, and to have a sexy show you need to be free of the censors.
That being said, the one that looks more promising to me is Lipstick Jungle, it seems a bit more comedic and less intense that Cashmere Mafia. But whichever one comes out second will likely be the one to fail IMO.
The women in Cashmere Mafia together at the end reminded me of Lynette, Susan, Bree and Gabrielle in 'Get Married Today' when Bree showed up. Both shows reminded me of Sex in the City and I wasn't surprised that one is from 'the author of Sex in the City' and the other is from 'the creator of Sex in the City'. If I had to pick one of the two that I think will survive it'd have to be Cashmere Mafia. I recognize the woman who says 'Yes I am, he is' in the Lipstick Jungle trailer. Was she on Desperate Housewives at some point? If not, does anyone know what she was on?
Both will fail. I mean how many SITC ripoffs can America take? DH succeeded because it had a very unique story. I doubt either of these two will be seen on next year's scedule.
My gut feeling goes with 'lipstick jungle'.
The other just looks so... meh
I will say 'Lipstick Jungle' as I have read the book and it seems pretty meaty. 'Cashmere Mafia' also looks good but not s glossy as Lipstick. I doubt if either shows will reach the dizzy heights of 'Sex and the City' but they will certainly be a fabulous consolation.
I dont think it's about which show is better- they almost seem to cater to different audiences. Lipstick Jungle seems to cater to a younger audience (people who are younger than the characters), while Cashmere Mafia seems to cater to a more mature audience (people who are actually the age of the characters). Cashmere Mafia seems more realistic (aside from some of the outfits!)- and has a classier execution of the storyline. Lipstick Jungle is more glamorous and air brushed- and also more dramatic and compelling. Other than that, they are too similar. Both shows have: a character who dates a billionare who mixes business and pleasure, a character whose husband ends up in the hospital for heart-related reasons, a character who works in the fashion industry, and a character who micromanages her family as a ripple-effect of micromanaging at work. The list goes on- it's painful to watch one show after the other because major plot points seem to be borrowed from either one. I just dont know- its like comparing Pepsi and Coke.
I'm going to watch both shows because each show does something different for me. I'm going to watch Lipstick Jungle for fashion envy, juicy gossip, and dramatic conclusions.
I'm going to watch Cashmere Mafia because I admire the characters- despite their flaws- because they actually do have flaws as well as values! I also appreciate the subtlety- and the faith that the writers have in the audience to come to their own conclusions- where in Lipstick Jungle, everything is hand-fed to the audience.
I hope both shows get continued! I'd hate to lose either one.
i love both shows but cashmere mafia seems to have had pulled the plug. have they? i think cashmere mafia is better. i totally love it.. lipstick jungle is ok, but not as interesting.
