"Brothers & Sisters" Scoop: Emily Van Camp Arrives On February 18
Former "Everwood" star Emily Van Camp is joining the ABC hit drama "Brothers and Sisters" in the February 18 episode "Love Is Difficult". Here are a few stills from the episode along with a recap of Van Camp's red hot interview with TV Guide in which she reveals how she was cast in the coveted role of Rebecca.
In the interview with TV Guide's prattle master Michael Ausiello, who is not only Emily's die-hard fan, but also a media personality who had vociferously campaigned for her casting in his weekly online column, Emily Van Camp reveals how it all happened in a single day, without even having to audition for the role.
For those of you who still may not know, Emily will be playing Rebecca, the illegitimate daughter of Patricia Wettig's Holly and the deceased Walker family patriarch William (a recurring, now flashback-only role played by Picket Fences' Tom Skerritt).
Emily said she had heard rumors she was being considered for the part several months ago, but she had only been contacted by the producers of the show - including the showrunner Greg Berlanti with whom she was working on WB's Everwood - several weeks ago, at the very last moment.
Given Berlanti's previous experience with Van Camp as well as his overall confidence that she would fit in the drama very well, the actress was not required to audition for the role, a fact Van Camp obviously finds very flattering. Van Camp will be a series regular and is expected to stay on the show for a very long time.
Van Camp who recently broke up with her former Everwood cast-mate Chris Pratt (Che on The O.C.) said she still keeps in touch with some of the people she worked with on the show. She is however very excited about coming on board a show of undisputed quality with an exceptional cast such as "Brothers and Sisters".
Before her Sunday night gig on ABC begins, Emily can also be seen on NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" in the episode airing February 13. She plays a young drug addict and daughter of a mob lawyer who may have murdered her own mother.
Finally, here is how Greg Berlanti explained how Rebecca will be introduced:
"Her first scene is with Holly in front of Tommy (Balthazar Getty) at the end of sweeps. Tommy is the first [Walker sibling] to meet her. He knows this girl is [his sister], but she obviously doesn't know. And then very soon thereafter, she discovers her actual identity and everything kind of blows up."
Nora, Justin and Kitty, meanwhile, learn the truth "in a big way in a March episode."
