TV Ratings: CBS Football Crushes All Competition
AFC Championship game crushed all competition standing in its path last night and took CBS to undisputed victory with a whopping 43,06 million viewers, even beating out FOX's season premiere of "American Idol" for the top network telecast of the week.
The ratings for the game were the strongest at the very beginning when the live telecast pulled in over 46 million viewers.
ABC was the second best with its hit line-up, including Desperate Housewives (17,08 million) and Brothers and Sisters (11,95 million).
Once again, "Housewives" were down due to special event programming (last week's episode was affected by FOX's premiere of "24").
"Brothers and Sisters" however continued to deliver excellent retention numbers, pulling in over 70% of the "Housewives" audience.
Over on NBC, Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" continues its descent - the reality show pulled in only 6,87 million viewers a far cry from 20+ million who watched the show in 2004.
Earlier in the evening, NBC's new reality series "Grease - You're The One I Want" (which also aired opposite the football on CBS) did much better business than "The Apprentice" pulling in over 8 million viewers at 8pm.

Hey Justin, I'm still worry about the numbers.... I think this is the first time this season that Housewives doesn't won its hour.... Should I be freakin' out???
oh and again.... I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!
You're very kind, Gonzalo. :)
No, you shouldn't be worried. I actually made a mistake by saying "Housewives" were down. I forgot to double-check last week's numbers and now I can see the show was actually up 400,000 viewers as opposed to last Sunday, despite getting enormous competition from football on CBS. That's a bug plus.
What I am a little worried is how "Housewives" will do in the spring when Marcia Cross (Bree) takes maternity leave for 8 episodes. "Housewives" just won't be the same without Bree even if we get more Edie.
I only hope the ratings don't go down during that time. I guess we'll have to wait and see in March.
We still get Bree on February 11 and 18.
8 episodes!!! OMG!!! I thought it was just 5 episodes.... anyway, we won't get Bree, but We still get Orson, Alma and Mama Hodge during those episodes??? or not??
I haven't seen any guest cast lists for any episodes beyond February 18, but as I had previously posted - Gloria will be staying till April 1, which I imagine means she will be in the first 2 or 3 episodes without Bree. I suppose that means Alma and/or Orson will be staying on the show for at least that long. By the way, the show is work in progress, so in the end it could be just 5-6 episodes without Bree. For now, the plan is that she returns in the season finale (episode 23, possibly a double episode 23/24). It all depends on Marcia and how soon she will be fit to go back to filming the show.
