Smallville #611: "Justice": Farewell To Green Arrow

JANUARY 21, 2007: "Smallville" has always had an unquenchable supply of young and hunky guest stars, so it is only appropriate that this pivotal episode that the entire sixth season has been leading up to (ever since the annihilation of Zod) explodes with testosterone.

Bart Allan (Kyle Gallner), a.k.a. The Flash (or Impulse), is the frisky kid who "ran a bit too fast for his own good" (as Clark put it last year), and he returns to Smallville with a strong appetite for Mama Kent's food, Spanish language and, of course, Chloe. How sweet of Clark to point out she has a boyfriend now.

What Clark doesn't know is that Oliver (soap veteran Justin Hartley) is using Bart's powers to sabotage Lex's mysterious 33.1 research facility.

When Lex captures and tortures Bart following a break-in into his facility, Oliver sends out for reinforcement and Aquaman (former American Idol wannabe Alan Ritchson) and Cyborg (Friday Night Lights' Lee Thompson Young) return to Smallville to help him release Bart and destroy the ominous lab facility.

Although Gallner and the rest of the guest cast put out unenviable effort in the acting department, they are very easy on the eyes and contribute just the right amount of camp to the cartoonish quality of "Smallville".

Despite being filmed on a limited TV budget, "Justice" is a highly enjoyable episode with a lot of adrenaline-bursting fun taking the young Superman saga to a crucial point of creation of "Justice League" and resident villain Lex Luthor's further descent into the darker side.

And for those who missed the somewhat tiresome love triangle (I presume Lana is away in Paris shopping for a wedding dress), there is another heart-wrenching moment: Lois says a tearful goodbye to her flame Oliver, who departs from Smallville leaving a lot of disappointed Justine Hartley fans behind.
