Ugly Betty's Jack & Karen
ABC's Ugly Betty stars Michael Urie (Marc) and Becki Newton (Amanda) have been dubbed by TV Guide the new "Jack and Karen" (the dynamic duo on NBC's "Will & Grace"), but it is Urie's undisputed chemistry with former Miss America Vanessa L. Williams ("Mode" vixen Wilhelmina) that makes for some equally satisfying TV viewing.
Urie, an actor with strong background in theater holds an acting degree from the Julliard School with classical credits which include Shakespeare, Jacobean drama and commedia del arte.
Newton is an actress with a degree in European history who previosuly starred in TV shows such as "Charmed," "Law & Order: SVU," "Cold Case," "American Dreams," and hosted a movie show on TBS.
The couple have quickly become popular among the fans of ABC's dramedy for their priceless on-screen compatibility as they shower the show's underdog heroine with contempt in the most adorable manner ever.
Vanessa Williams, on the other hand, plays the elegant and campy villain Wilhelmina Slater, determined to sabotage everyone standing in her path. Her frigid yet surprisingly humane character hisses and scratches, but in the end it all comes out like a purr.
As cartoonish tensions and exaggerated emotions at the Mode soar, Wilhelmina's hilariously abusive relationship with her naughty assistant Marc, lends itself for some of the show's most memorable lines.
If you haven't done that as yet, make sure you check the mojo that has made ABC's "Ugly Betty" a true winner on Thursday nights, as the network fills the month of December with reruns, including a special telecast of the episode "Trust, Lust and Must" that introduces executive producer Salma Hayek's Sofia on Saturday, December 16 at 10pm, as well as the "Ugly Betty Marathon", two weeks later, on December 30 (8-11pm).
