Brooke Smith Replaces Isaiah Washington on "Grey's Anatomy"

ABC has announced that actress Brooke Smith ("Dirty Sexy Money," "Weeds," "Crossing Jordan") has joined the cast of its award-winning blockbuster drama "Grey's Anatomy" as Dr. Erica Hahn who takes over the position previously held by Isaiah Washington's character Dr.Preston Burke at Seattle Grace.

The well-respected no-nonsense doctor who has already appeared in 5 episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" (3 in season #2, and 2 in season #3) has now entered the staff of Seattle Grace as its top cardiothoracic surgeon.

The actress recently appeared in the pilot episode of ABC's Wednesday night drama "Dirty Sexy Money" as Andrea, little Brian Jr.'s mother who took off to Brazil leaving her illegitimate son with his father. She is set to appear in an upcoming episode, upon her return from Brazil, and claim her son back.

The actress' previous credits also include quality dramas such as "Weeds," "Law & Order," "Crossing Jordan" and "Six Feet Under."

Yes, I heard she joined the team in the last episode, I just meant ABC officially announced that on Friday (they obviously waited for the episode to air before issuing an official press release).

I say "heard" because I have to admit I am forcing myself to watch the show this year.

I hated the show in the beginning (because it was overshadowing 'Desperate Housewives'), then I fell in love with it during the amazing 2nd season, then in the course of the 3rd season I realized things were not as they used to be but I continued to watch, and now I have seen the first 2 episodes of the 4th season I'm trying really hard to keep watching. Oh, God! There are 3 episodes of "Grey's Anatomy" waiting for me to watch. Oh, well. Maybe I'll do it tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow is another day.

oh my god justin, how can you say greys anatomy is not good? its one of the best dramas on television. i admit it was different towards the end of season 3, but its bounced back since then. like, seriously. go watch it. although it hasnt returned to its glory days of season 2, it is getting better with each episode.

and i do know that desperate housewives has returned to its glory days of season 1, creatively.

I'm not saying "Grey's Anatomy" is not good. They're a very talented cast, and despite some criticism that both of her shows received in the past year, Shonda Rhimes really is one of the best writers/showrunners working in television today.

It's just that, I tend to go into stages, when suddenly one fictional world seems somewhat less appealing in terms of escapism over another.

Currently, I can't wait to go back to Wisteria Lane, the Walker mansion, Mode Magazine, The Pie Hole and the Darling manor.

For some reason, at this point, I just prefer to "escape" to those places than Seattle Grace.

My choices do tend to be cyclical though, so I'm sure I'll get back to 'Grey's Anatomy'. Eventually.

It's interesting you saying that you are forcing yourself to watch Grey's Anatomy because i'm feeling the same about Private Practice, it may even become the first show in a long time that I have given up watching.
