Weekend Ratings (2/1-3/08) Super Bowl Ratings (UPDATED)
Super Bowl is of course the #1 television event of the year. Just how big was it this year, though? The results, along with the rest of the weekend ratings, a click away.
New York Giants vs. New England Patriots scored 97.5 million viewers, up from 93.18 million that the Colts vs. the Bears generated for CBS one year ago. This was not only the highest rated Super Bowl ever, but also the second highest rated telecast in the history of the United States. The first was of course the 1983 series finale of M*A*S*H with 105.9 million. Last night's game however peaked between 9:30 and 10:00pm with 105.7 million viewers.
"House" held on to about one third of that audience pulling in almost 38 million viewers. Last year's post-Super Bowl episode of "Criminal Minds" scored a little over 26 million viewers. Expect the final "House" numbers to go a little down, as these results include only the first half of the episode.
The most successful competing program airing against Super Bowl was CBS' veteran newsmagazine "60 Minutes" with 4.99 million viewers. Over 12 million people were watching non-Super Bowl network programming.
