"Dirty Sexy Money": Second Season?
The remaining 3 pre-strike episodes of "Dirty Sexy Money" will air as part of a second season, launching in September 2008. The show (and a number of other promising freshman shows) would however initially be renewed for only 13 episodes, reports TV Guide.
Under normal circumstances, TV shows get a 13 episode order. If they do well in the ratings, the networks order the "back 9 episodes" increasing the episode total to standard 22.
If the show is then renewed for another season, the networks immediately order a full second season of 22 episodes. Because of the writers' strike that will not be the case for many new shows that launched last fall.
Although the strike is yet to be called off and decisions on the future of freshman shows are yet to be made, insiders say those shows that got a full season 1 order last fall (say "Pushing Daisies") will initially return for only 13 new episodes in their second season.
That means, the fans of these shows will have to go through the same type of "do we get a full season or not" uncertainty all over again.
The final all-new episode of "Dirty Sexy Money" aired on December 5. That means by the time the show is relaunched in September 2008, it will have been off air for over 9 months.
That is providing the actors union (SAG) doesn't call a strike of their own come summer and postpone the beginning of the next TV season.

This sucks on so many levels it isn't even funny. I want my Pushing Daisies! :( They had better get a full season.
So does this mean that we get 16 episodes of DSM come September?? I guess it makes more sense than showing 3 episodes in May but why are the networks so against showing new shows that they are high on in Summer? I know Summer ratings are traditionally lower but in this year of strike it's a long time for fans to wait. Some may not come back as they will be interested in other things now. Not to mention the actors may strike this summer so why not produce these ASAP, show them starting in May (thru July) and make a decision in June weather this is worthy of a 2nd season to be launched in October?? Cable has shown that good shows will have success in the summer (Mad Men to name one). Why not the networks?
No, I'm afraid it means we get 13 episodes. Those 3 we didn't get to see this year, plus 10 new episodes.
As you said, the ratings are simply too low in the summer. Yes, the networks do contribute to that audience erosion with their poor choice, but people travel and spend more time out of their homes, so there is a valid reason behind that strategy.
Cable nets choose summer to launch their shows because they want to capitalize on the absence of network hits. But even when cable shows succeed, their ratings are nowhere near the levels expected by the broadcast networks advetisers.
DSM is the best show in the world. If you cancel it, we will hunt you down!

I will cry if you don't continue making DSM!

I need this show to live! It is the ONLY reason why I live.

You should make more publicity for this show! I am hooked, and more people definitely would be if they even knew about this show!
