TV Ratings (1/07/08)
Not the best news for the writers' union today, currently involved in a bitter fight with the Peacock over the Golden Globes telecast. The network's reality slate is working out! First Donald Trump won Thursday night in adults 18-49 and now a remake of "American Gladiators" got off to a great start scoring 12.04 million viewers and beating the series premiere of ABC's "Cashmere Mafia."
The reality contest also managed to build on its popular lead-in "Deal Or No Deal" which pulled in 10.41 million viewers from 7-9 p.m. The show also won the 10 p.m. timeslot in adults 18-49. The show will be moving to its regular timeslot on Monday nights where it will face off ABC's new dance competition "Dance Wars," a spin-off of "Dancing with the Stars."
The debut of "Cashmere Mafia" reminds me of "Big Shots." A freshman 10 p.m. drama that leads-out of one of TV's biggest blockbusters only to lose half the audience in its premiere. And this was of course the pilot when some of that "Desperate" crowd stuck around to sample the show. Unfortunately for ABC, over 2 million of them tuned out by 10:30 p.m.
