LOST Spoilers: Oceanic Airlines Returns
Late last week, just before everyone rushed home for long New Year's weekend, folks at the ABC marketing department issued this fake little press release announcing the return of Oceanic Airlines, the fictional carrier whose September 2004 plane crash triggered a chain of mysterious events on ABC's "LOST." What does all that mean?
In the 3rd season finale of "LOST" which aired last May, the writers altered the original storytelling formula by introducing flash forwards and revealing what happens to Jack and Kate after they leave the island.
In the episode, Jack is seen flying Oceanic Airlines which is apparently back in service after being closed down following the crash of flight 815. Die-hard "LOST" fans noticed an actual copy of LA Times in Jack's hands during the flight placing the flashback into April 2007.
As you will see by reading the press release below, the carrier goes back into service December 31. The question is December 31 of which year?
2004? If I'm not mistaken we're about to approach that date in the original island-based storyline. 2005 or 2006? That would happen months before Jack's flight in the 3rd season finale flash forward. Or 2007? That would be three days before ABC actually released that PR.
Also, the 9 markets this "major airline carrier" is resuming the service to appear to be significant places in the LOST universe, including Sydney and Los Angeles, the two points of the doomed flight 815.
Now if Oceanic Airlines really had to close down following the fatal flight 815, this is an awfully nonchalant way to go back into business. Unless of course the crash never happened and the events on the island are a part of a parallel universe.
If you happen to spot any information in this press release you may find significant, feel free to post your thoughts below.
"LOST" returns Thursday, January 31 at 9/8c on ABC.

Hey Justin: I was assuming 2004, but you might be right, it could be any of the three years until now given the flashbacks.
A followup to the PR is the brilliant game that ABC has used to lead up to the premiere. If you check out www.find815.com, it is a site about an Oceanic IT guy Sam, who hacked into the Oceanic site and is looking for his girlfriend Sonya, who was a flight attendant on 815. He is really cute too! Very clever of ABC, it is like a miniseries of Lost off of the island on line!
