Writers Union Members Stewart & Colbert to Cross the Picket Line January 7
As you may have noticed I kept my coverage of this wretched writers' strike to minimum over the past month (I do have to abstain from the use of vulgarities that I might have on the matter). This is however too juicy not to post. Prominent Writers' Union members Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central are going back on air January 7, joining the other late night talk show hosts who announced their return over the past few days.
Given all the hatred directed at Ellen Degeneres and Carson Daly (I genuinely cared only about the former, though) when they decided to "cross the picket line" it will be interesting to see what effect the return of Stewart and Colbert will have on the cause.
All late night hosts who are going back on air will do so without their writers, only David Letterman - who has been 'extremely supportive of the strike' - gets to negotiate a waiver.
In an interesting reversal of fortunes, this also means that not only the production crew gets their jobs back, but the striking writers no longer get to earn residuals for repeats that filled the airwaves when they abandoned their jobs almost 7 weeks ago.
