"Heroes" Spin-Off Cancelled
NBC has canceled the previously announced 6-episode spin-off series "Heroes: Origins" in the light of the looming writers' strike. NBC originally intended to air the show in the spring in place of repeats.
Last year the network split the 23-episode red-hot first season of "Heroes" into 3 batches and aired the first 11 episodes from late September till early December, the following 6 from late January till early March and the final 6 from mid April till late May.
Some fans objected to long winter and spring breaks between the three arcs, which were necessary because of the highly serialized nature of the series.
For this reason, NBC decided to fill the spring 2008 break with a limited-run spin-off series "Heroes: Origins" tapping further into the show mythology with an entirely different cast.
The show has in the meantime significantly cooled off in the ratings with one of the complaints being that there are too many new characters and the storylines seem a bit all over the place.
Since "Heroes: Origins" hasn't even been written yet, the Peacock network decided to scrap the entire project. In fact, because of the strikeit appears we'll be happy if we even get the entire season of "Heroes" produced.
