TV Ratings: "Pushing Daisies" Wins Demo (10/10/07)
ABC's "Private Practice" held steady in week #3 pulling in over 12 million viewers and winning its timeslot in the 18-49 demo. Lead-in "Pushing Daisies" however lost almost 3 million viewers who tuned in last Wednesday to check out what all the buzz was about posting a little over 10 million viewers.
The good news for "Pushing Daisies" is that the show won the timeslot in the important 18-49 demo.
Although CBS' "Criminal Minds" won the 9pm timeslot in total viewers, NBC's "The Bionic Woman" actually matched CM in the 18-49 demo.
My favorite show on television, "Dirty Sexy Money," lost about 900,000 viewers week to week, but only 15% of the audience that tuned into the pilot.
The show's 18-49 numbers however remain almost intact (3.4). DSM is also doing much better than its 2006 predecessor "The Nine" (which averaged 7-8 million viewers out of "LOST's" 16-18 million). Also, its retention out of PP is over 70% - which is higher than "Brothers & Sisters" out of "Desperate Housewives" last year.
I sure know how to spin the numbers if I love the show, don't I?

Hey Justin, it seems like all of the new shows fall about 20% after the debut. It really will depend on how it holds this audience after the 3rd episode IMO. I do like Pushing Daisies, especially the Kristen Chenoweth tribute to Hopelessly Devoted To You! I don't know if it'll click with audiences week after week though. Some of the blogs out there are writing off every other show that drops the second week, if they did that, half the shows on the schedule would be gone. With the DVRs being more popular, anything around 9 or 10 million should be considered decent these days.
Oh, absolutely! You just can't cancel all of the new shows.
And, correct me if I'm wrong, but - apart from 'Private Practice' - no new show gets more than 10 million people now.
Plus, DVRs may give a number of shows a 10-20% boost.
Well, I am still confident that PD can survive. I'm not giving up hope yet.
