"Gossip Girl" Recap #1.03 "Poison Ivy"
An erroneous revelation made at the Ivy League mixer surprisingly brought the feuding Upper East Side brats together on the "Poison Ivy" episode of The CW's "Gossip Girl."
The event capped off the Ivy League week that began with a nasty field-hockey catfight between Serena and Blair. Seeing the two girls battle it out with hockey sticks sent my mind flashing back to 2003 to the iconic soccer field fist match between Ryan and Luke on "The O.C."
The friendless vixen who sadly has no alternative but to confide in her own maid, believes nothing she does will ever be as bad as what Serena did to her. By the end of the episode, we realized that did not necessarily mean Serena sleeping with Blair's boyfriend.
Speaking of Nate, the boy finally stood up to his father who tried to set up his entire future with four simple words: "Dartmouth. Law school. Blair." Good for him, although one should not underestimate the father who will most certainly continue to put the pressure on Nate.
The rich kid with gorgeous turquoise eyes also takes little interest in being an usher, reluctantly taking that position under Dan's eager nose.
I loved how that sleazebag Chuck made a point for himself in the interview: "Because I'm Chuck Bass." Now that's confidence. Mama must be proud.
Now, isn't Dan a tad too sensitive? Last week he broke up with Serena after learning about her past (as if that was much of a shocker), and now he vents his frustration over not becoming an usher by slamming doors in his "poor people's apartment."
Good thing he has his enterprising dad who persuaded Serena's mom to get Dan a "refreshing" position at the mixer where he even got to bond with Nate. Why do I have a feeling it's only a matter of time before the passion between these two old lovers reignites? Because it's a sudser. That's why.
At the mixer, Serena's little bro Eric stood up to that witch Blair and put her in the right place after she publicly humiliated Serena. That bitch most certainly had it coming this week after 'outing' Serena as a recovering alcoholic.
The kid had to show a suddenly speechless Blair his wrist wound to explain what an idiot she was, and surprisingly she kept that delicate information to herself not telling her partner in crime Chuck a word. At least for now.
Eric meanwhile got to open up to Dan's sister Jenny. That led to their siblings, aspiring lovers Dan and Serena reconnecting after Dan learned from Jenny what an honorable thing Serena did for her brother by posing as an alcoholic in order to cover up her brother's struggle with depression and suicide attempt.
Finally, the mixer gaffe forced Blair to open up to Serena and explain herself - it is Serena's departure that hurt Blair the most at the difficult time when her gay dad left her mom for a young male model in Paris.
But will the two girls go back to the way they used to be or is this just a little break before the next storm?
