UPDATED: CBS Cancels "Viva Laughlin"

CBS has announced the cancellation of "Viva Laughlin" this afternoon. The show will be replaced by "The Amazing Race."

The rookie series, produced by actor Hugh Jackman, premiered in its "regular" timeslot last night to an embarrassing 1.2 rating (even most of the shows on The CW score a higher rating).

"The Amazing Race" begins its 12th cycle on Sunday, November 4. A repeat of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" will fill the slot next Sunday.

The network's other timeslot candidate "Jericho" will be launched later in the season, because the networks are trying to stockpile as many fresh hours of scripted programming as possible. "Jericho" will then get a stronger marketing push.

Come to think of it, if "Jericho" is launched in the middle of what seems to be an inevitable writers' strike, perhaps the show will rise to the levels it once averaged in the fall of 2006.

Who cares about VL? But no writers' strike please. But if they do decide to strike, the show writers should get as many scripts done as humanly possible so they can finish most of the season on time.

If they do decide to strike, I hope at least most of the Lost episodes for the new season are ready.

Are there any dramas that won't be effected by this?

I am afraid all of the dramas will be affected, including "LOST".

According to recent buzz, if there is strike, it will start by Christmas at the latest, and none of the shows will have filmed the entire season by then.

Most actors will be out of a job for almost a whole year because there's no writers for pilot season and if there's no writers for pilots and for rewrites, there's no pilot season for 2008-09 season and hence most actors have to wait until 2010 for pilot season to restart. Sucks...I know.

Btw, I hate the fact that Viva Laughlin was canceled. It was a fun show to watch. Not as great as the original, but it is better than most of the drivel that is on American TV at the moment.

Yes, who cares about VL? I thought I saw Hugh Jackman on Channel 9 (Australian) on TV last night. Only Channel 9 which was stupid enough to buy this show.

Good enough that Jason McCallister will end his preaching in Tioman, Malaysia!!
