TV Ratings: How Cane & Reaper Did (9/25/07)
CBS' sugar-coated rum-flavored Florida-based soap "Cane" premiered last night as did The CW's new fantasy comedy "Reaper"? How did they do and who won the night? "House" or "Dancing with the Stars"?
In a press release today, CBS claims "Cane" was their best series premiere in the Tuesday at 10:00 p.m. timeslot in 8 years. The reality is the show did a little better than last year's "Smith" (11.12 million vs. 11 million viewers) and that show was canceled after 3 episodes.
"Smith" was however bleeding each week. 11.12 million is actually a good start if the show can maintain those numbers or possibly even build a stronger audience. After all, the #1 show in the timeslot (a weaker "Law & Order: SVU") got only 1.1 million pairs of eyeballs more than "Cane."
Over on the CW, "Reaper" got off to a modest start with only 3.22 million viewers. Although the show did worse than "Veronica Mars" last year (and we all know how that finished) it did grow out of its lead-in "Beauty and the Geek" (2.98 million) and that's always a plus.
Finally, "Dancing with the Stars" lured 18.34 million viewers, that's a teenie weenie bit more than FOX's "House" (18.13 million), but keep in mind "Dancing" is a 90-minute show which actually grew to over 19 million people by the time "House" came on air at 9:00 p.m. So ABC's reality contest is the clear winner.

And how Did Boston Legal do?
A 90-minute "Boston Legal" (10.3 million, 2.5/7) came in third place at 10 p.m.
I hope all the good buzz Reaper is getting helps its ratings- I think everyone was really surprised at how fun it was. It definitely delivered and deserves an audience!! I'm officially a fan!
10.3 million still isn't that bad for BL. It has what few shows anymore seem to have, a stable audience. Every other show is shedding viewers faster then you can count em. Least BL has a stable audience.
