FOX Censors Sally Field's Anti-War Rant
SEPTEMBER 17, 2007: Rupert Murdoch-owned FOX network which carried the "live" Emmy telecast last night censored Emmy-Award winner Sally Field's anti-war rant at the end of her acceptance speech bleeping out the words "god-damned wars in the first place."
Did those trigger-happy censors mistake the words "god damn" for profanity or was there some kind of special agenda at work? In any event, big thumbs down to FOX for the embarrassing handling of the matter and thumbs up to a defiant Sally who said backstage: "I would have liked to have said more bleeped-out words."
Finally, I couldn't be happier for Sally, whose performance as Nora Walker, the loving but fear-stricken mother of a soldier, rightfully deserves the award. Congratulations, Sally. I really, really like you.

wow sally field look great
I am just in the middle of watching the emmy's... But can't wait to see her accept the emmy she well deserves...
Oh Justin, give it a rest. There was NO agenda. They bleeped it out cause of GD. Frankly, I took great offense to her speech and thought it was complete BS. But I guess she must get her news from Complete BS or other news stations like that so I guess she would think that way. What a disgrace to the troops!
According to an FCC ruling, the combination of the words "god" and "damn" is NOT deemed indecent language (section 1464).
The decision to bleep Sally out may have been based on uncertainty of censors whether "goddamn" was offensive or FOX's political agenda or both.
USA is not a communist country and therefore political censorship is unacceptable.
The only disgrace to the troops is spitting on democracy they fight for by silencing people who chose to publicly speak their mind.
Ah no, NOT the only disgrace. You gotta learn to drop the whacked conspiracy theories. Fox isn't like other networks, they don't try to hide anything. Personally, they have the righ to bleep GD is they so choose. And if you wanna get into political censorship, then I can really show you it on other networks.
What conspiracies? I wasn't talking about any conspiracies, JJ.
FOX is pretty loud and clear on where they stand. And so was Sally Field.
So to conclude my position on the issue - go Sally! You have my full support.
Just my two cents, but as far as I've always known/seen on broadcast TV, "Goddamn" is NOT allowed... you can say "God" or "damn" but not together... if the FCC rules you quoted, Justin, are as such, then they've only recently changed.
Yup, as the above poster said it, goddamn is not allowed. Networks are extra careful nowadays since that Janet Jackson incident, which btw CBS is still due in court this week. There is no such a thing as an Agenda. FYI Rupert Murdoch gave a hefty donation to Hillary's campaign....I'm just saying
I was referring to the FCC ruling concerning the movie "Saving Private Ryan" where the expression was listed as "not actionable." In any event, I am happy to tell you that "goddamn" is allowed on this blog.
So in other words Justin, you are against Fox's right to censor a word they deem as inappropriate? She could've carried the same message without the explative. But since she was foolish enough to use the explative, then her comment merited censoring.
Plus, It'd be very nice to actually watch an awards show without the political propaganda being thrown in. Grow up already.
And I see Sally Field is still stuttering, just like back in Doubtfire.(The only role I actually liked her in.)
Yes, exactly. I am against censoring of live broadcasts. It seems very communist to me. Just like banning Dixie Chicks from radio airplay because of their political opinion.
Propaganda? Is that what you call political opinions that you don't agree with? Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It's called democracy. Deal with it.
Finally, Sally Field was not throwing anything in. She was being honored for her performance as a mother who opposes the war and lives in fear for her son's life.
Dedicating the award to mothers like her character Nora was therefore appropriate.
You lefties call everything and everything right propaganda.
What if she had said the F word, should it still have been allowed through? Glenn Beck said it best, "When in doubt, leave it out." You libs need to stop crying like babies about nothing. It's bad enough we gotta bring politics into the TV awards, but now you complain if we censor cursing? Give me a break.
And the music was playing when she said that. She should've shut the heck up anyway. She had the perfect place to end her speech, but NO, she had to go on. I think the biggest fool here today, is Ms. Field. Good thing I have no interest in suffering through any more of the liberal agenda they throw on B&S(Which I official rename, just plain BS)
jj your opinions are the one sounding bs to me. seriously censoring "goddamn" when they allow bitch? what nonsense.
