"Desperate Housewives" Spoilers: #4.01: "Now You Know" - Wisteria Lane Shocked!
The neighborhood is shocked when news about Edie spreads though Fairview, Lynette battles with the effects of chemotherapy, and a new family moves to Wisteria Lane, on the Season Premiere of "Desperate Housewives."
The fourth season of ABC's hit dramedy "Desperate Housewives" begins on Sunday, September 30, and the network has already released the above-written teaser and several stills to taunt the fans about the fate of Nicolette Sheridan's character Edie Britt who may have committed suicide in the 3rd season finale last May.
What we do know is that Ms. Sheridan will be back on the show this year. What we don't know is whether she survives her suicide attempt or gets to join Mary-Alice on the other side and take over some of the narrating duties.
The major event in the episode is of course the much touted arrival of Dana Delany's character Katherine Mayfair and her younger husband, a gynecologist played by Drive's Nathan Fillion.
Katherine had already lived on Wisteria Lane 12 years ago and was friends with Susan Mayer. She was however a different woman at the time.
The show will flash back to the 1990s when Katherine lived on Wisteria Lane along with Susan and Mary-Alice. That probably means more screen time for Brenda Strong and more crazy wigs for Teri Hatcher.
Katherine and her daughter left Wisteria Lane under mysterious circumstances. They now return along with Katherine's husband Adam, but as our ladies soon realize, there is something creepy about this family.
The secret may even have something to do with Mayfair's old house that they again move into once Mike Delfino moves in with Susan.
Although the new mystery may remind some viewers of the lackluster Betty Applewhite storyline in season 2, "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry promises that unlike Betty's story, this one will go beyond dark and offer a lot of laughter.
Dana Dalany was Marc Cherry's original #1 choice for the character Bree Van De Camp before the show began production in 2004.
In an interview with Pittsburg Post-Gazette, Cherry said: "Dana Delany came in and auditioned for Bree, and she gave a fantastic audition. I offered her the part three times, and she turned it down three times."
"Marcia's Bree didn't get the joke, and Dana's was a much more sly Bree, and that's the character I thought I wanted," Cherry.
"My mother, though a very sweet homemaker, has a sly sense of humor, and that's how Dana performed it. She captured that quality."
"Marcia, who will be the first to tell you, 'I'm not funny, I never get the joke,' her Bree was kind of oblivious to her own Breeness."
"Interestingly enough, when we went forward with the show, it became a much funnier character than I envisioned."
Delany may have been originally reluctant to accept the role on "Desperate Housewives" and get back into series television following the collapse of her brilliant 2001 FOX sudser "Pasadena" which that network killed with hideous scheduling.
Ironically, Delany and Fillion both starred on "Pasadena" - he was the priest who slept with Delany's family matriarch in an episode that later aired on SoapNet (FOX aired only 4 out of 13 episodes).
Back on Wisteria Lane, Susan, Mike and Julie will begin life as a family. Julie who always acted like a mother to Susan loves Mike, but she will refuse to do what she is told when Mike stars acting like the father.
Also, rumor has it Susan gets pregnant, because of her visits to Adam and another gynecologist.
Lynette will have to deal with both cancer and her estranged mother (Polly Bergen) who now tries to be there for her. The chemotherapy and cancer will affect her family in many ways. Expect a hilarious scene involving a wig.
Finally, Eva Longoria's Gabrielle has realized her husband Victor Lang had an ulterior motive when he married her and she seeks comfort in the arms of her former husband Carlos.
In an ironic twist from season 1 when Gaby was cheating on Carlos with sexy gardener John, she now begins an affair with her former husband unbeknownst to Victor.

More screentime for Brenda Strong is always a good thing. She's very underused in an acting capacity.
