"Betty" & Henry to Call it Quits?
JULY 5, 2007: I am going to write something that is going to make me very unpopular with many "Ugly Betty" fans. Christopher Gorham's Henry's and Betty's romance may be over and I am not that unhappy about that. Oh, Justin - that was just inappropriate!
TV Guide reported earlier this week that the producers of "Ugly Betty" are looking for a new love interest for Betty who is described as Gio, an ambitious, aggressive and lovable man who runs the sandwich cart at "Mode."
Since Gio is expected to be sticking around for an entire second season of the Golden Globe-winning comedy, we are either looking at Henry being completely out of the picture (I seriously doubt that) or we are getting a season-long love triangle that may result in the glorious reunion of Betty and Henry come May.
In any event, don't expect me to shed any tears if Henry happens to leave Mode fashionistas behind for good (he was on the plane out of New York with former girlfriend Charlie once he realized she was pregnant and it might be his child, although Betty - of course - learned it wasn't).
Yes, Christopher Gorham's (pictured above at the Ugly Betty April wrap party with wife Anel Lopez and co-star Michael Urie) Henry is super-cute in a dorky kind of way and he seems to be a perfect match for Betty.
And although I was happy to see the producers ditch the annoying Walter, "seems" just doesn't cut it for me. I feel as if the writers are forcing us to love Betty and Henry because they are "perfect for each other."
I have to say I have always found their on-and-off relationship a bit of a snoozefest (uh-oh - I guess you're all ready to post some hate comments now) and I am really happy to see that Betty may be getting someone who is a lovable character but one with a little more spunk. But hey - that's just me.

We all have differing opinions which makes life very interesting. This is another example of that fact. I disagree. While I do wish the producers/writers would have joined Henry and Betty, this is a soap opera. The main couple of a show, in this case Henry & Betty, will be thrown curveballs in their path of romance. As it has been said the path to true love never did run smooth and this path is chockfull of roadblocks. I will continue to watch them for as long as TPTB keep up the storyline for the next decade.
I for one LOVE Christopher Gorham, yes it might be a little too perfect, but I've always loved pseudogeeks, underneath the nerdy glasses and the buttoned down shirts is a hunk ready to break out! I hope he's not leaving!
Interesting post....I know there is a faction out there that thinks of Henry as a "stepping stone" to Daniel and if that is the case they better hope she keeps steppin' because right now she has had heartbreak from Walter and Henry - at some point she may just give up on love all together.
I don't want her with Daniel as I think it would ruin the show but if I were of that mind, I would want her to have relationships that lead to that. How can anyone think she would just jump from Walter to Daniel ??
To be honest, the more they keep Betty and Henry apart, the more I think they belong together. The anvil dropped for me when Betty said "If it was meant to be it wouldn't be this hard."
Oh yes, Princess Betty, you have found your prince....and no matter how many toads you have to kiss, how many wicked witches you must melt, how many poison apples you have to eat and how many glass slippers you must try on....I think the end game will be Henry and if anyone is a stepping stone, it will be Daniel.
Looking forward to Season 2.
I personally have enjoyed the Henry/Betty storylines, most of the time - some of the torn-apart-by-cruel-fate stuff got a bit tedious, especially after Charlie showed up, although in the first few episodes featuring Henry I thought they were wonderful - but I really don't want it to go down yet another love triangle route. I definitely think that a break is needed from that plotline and it would be good to see Henry in some other situations, to develop his own character away from Betty's-perfect-man. However, I certainly hope Henry does come back, because without at least some sort of real closure the storyline can't truly move on.
Henry is the only guy for Betty.
Every time Christopher Gorham comes on screen, he really lights it up for me watching the show (ok, him and Becki Newton).
Anyway, I love his dorkiness/nerdiness and Henry is so the perfect match prince for Betty's princess character.

Well, frankly - I'd have to agree with you. Despite what some people might say, Henry's character has always been too perfect to me...and he still is. Everyone on that show has flaws. Where are his? Liking soap operas isn't a flaw. Wearing sweater vests isn't a flaw. If they can delve into Henry's character more and show us another side to him (like Betty), then that's cool. But so far, I find Henry boring. So, it wouldn't bother me to see her spend time with someone like this Gio character.
To be fair, I will say that they need to fix this "hanging" storyline b/w Henry and Betty...and I'm sure they will. However, do I see Betty living out the rest of her days with no one else but Henry at her side? No. Sorry, but that just doesn't seem completely realistic to me.
I think room should be left open for Betty to meet others...Gio, maybe someone else, and who knows? It's not exactly weird if she and Daniel get together someday. I've seen it happen a couple of times in real life. But in their case, it wouldn't be as unusual since they act more like friends than boss/assistant. And hey - this is TV...
