Rob Lowe Promoted On "Brothers & Sisters"

Rob Lowe who joined ABC's addictive drama "Brothers & Sisters" in November as a "special guest star" has now been promoted to "series regular" for the show's recently announced second season, Hollywood press reports tonight.

Sunday night sudser has seen its ratings increase since Lowe joined the cast, although the results also have to be contributed to consistent quality writing and the drama's A-list cast boasting talents of such greats as Sally Field.

Back in January, the producers made a decision to extend his initial a handful of episodes long guest starring stint and keep him on board for the rest of the season under the same title, special guest star.

Recently the actor has negotiated an as-yet undisclosed salary increase (thus far top-paid thespian on the show Flockhart earns $150,000 per episode) with the new deal securing his place on the show for a full second season and promoting him to the status of series regular.

"He brings a unique romantic addition to the show by his combination of wit and charm and his elegance," said exec producer Jon Robin Baitz.

"The great discovery of it is there's such an intrinsic chemistry between him and Calista, which is so rare to find in two actors together. He's been a tremendous boon to the show in terms of storylines and even the ratings."

Rob Lowe of course plays conservative Senator McCalister, a romantic foil to Calista's character, the Republican political commentator Kitty Walker.
