NBC's "Heroes" Shocker of a Paternity Twist: Claire Is Nathan's Daughter!

Last night NBC's fast-moving cult saga "Heroes" rewarded its loyal fan base with a jaw-dropping twist - cheerleader Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) is the illegitimate daughter of Kennedy-esque politician Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar).

Claire learned the truth after she tracked down her biological mother Meredith Gordon (Jessalyn Gilsig). The development will jeopardize Petrelli's political aspirations and he will have to do his best to prevent a scandal from rising up.

The twist worthy of Jack Coleman's (H.R.G.) 80's sudser "Dynasty" was planned from the moment when "Heroes" was just a diagram on paper and the writers were only mapping out connections between the characters, says creator Tim Kring to TV Guide.

Both actors were told how their respective storylines would intertwine from early on which gave Pasdar, who was thrilled by the development, an opportunity to play his scenes with on-screen wife Rena Sofer with certain subtleties.

The storyline should put to rest any gossip about possible relationship between Claire and Milo Ventimiglia's Peter who is not only 10 years older than the 16-year old teenager, but also her uncle.

According to Kring, the show will continue to explore the idea of evolution and family connections and Nathan who can fly, his former flame who can mentally create fire and daughter who is invincible are only the beginning.

  1. Wow, I never saw that coming a mile away. What a twister of a cliffhanger! :)

Plus, I just love how Peter is Claire's uncle. It all makes sense as to why he has better control over some powers and not others.

  2. At first I was beginning to think the series was getting a little stale. It seems like the only interesting parts are in the last five minutes of the show. But this episode shocked the hell out of me and restored my faith in the "Heroes" series. I would have never thought Nathan would be the baby's daddy. I was thinking it was gonna be Lendermann(?) who has a lot of connections to the many of the characters.
